Explorer 1016 is not an easy build - and yet, it is.
This Thread contains the finest pieces of research anyone could ever do on building one - be it from a lump of metal resuced from the scrap-yard or from the finest pieces of 306L that Viet has to throw at us. Well done for making it here. Your build will now be successful as a result!
It is, gentleman and brothers - an absolute pleasure to be here as we reach 100 pages of encyclopaedic knowledge on the matter.

In the "The 1016: The Under Appreciated Thread" on the Replica Watch Info forum, enthusiasts and experts share detailed insights and experiences in customizing Rolex 1016 replica watches. The discussion spans various aspects, including choices of movements, cases, hands, crystals, and techniques for shaping and aging the case. Here's a detailed overview based on the forum's discussions:

1. **Movements**: Various movements are mentioned, with the NH38 being a popular choice due to its reliability and compatibility with custom builds. The ETA 2824 movement is also discussed, particularly in relation to its fit with Vietnam cases https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-80 https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-56

2. **Cases**: Raffles cases are frequently mentioned, known for their quality and suitability for 1016 builds. Members discuss reshaping these cases, often requiring detailed work on the lugs and case flanks to achieve the desired vintage look https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-42 https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-51 https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-40

3. **Hands and Dials**: There's a range of preferences for hands and dials, with Yuki and Ruby dials being highlighted for their quality and aesthetic. The importance of choosing hands that match the overall style and functionality of the watch is emphasized https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-16

4. **Crystals**: The Sternkreuz T21 crystal is a common choice, often UV glued to the case. The T21 crystal is noted for fitting well with various bezels, including those from WSO, which might require slight widening to fit perfectly https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-56 https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-40

5. **Shaping and Aging the Case**: Detailed techniques for reshaping and aging the case are shared. This includes careful sanding, filing, and even removing a small amount from the rehaut for precision. Aging techniques might involve chemical treatments or manual methods to give the case and dial a more authentic, vintage appearance https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-51 https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-59

6. **Gluing Crystals**: A note of caution is raised regarding the use of UV glue resin for attaching crystals. It is sensitive to alcohol and similar solvents, which can cause cracking if not handled carefully https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/the-1016-the-under-appreciated-thread.8523377/page-47

7. **General Building Advice**: The thread is rich with tips and tricks, emphasizing the importance of precise measurement, careful selection of components, and attention to detail in every aspect of the build process.

This forum thread is a treasure trove of information for anyone interested in customizing Rolex 1016 replica watches, offering a community-driven knowledge base that's invaluable for hobbyists and enthusiasts alike.

The thread has reached 100 pages! Congratulations. The thread seems to have been very active recently. It looks like more and more newbies like me are joining.
I've read this thread from beginning to end, but foolishly I didn't jot down the necessary information.
I guess I thought I wouldn't need such complicated information at that time.
So this winter, I plan to start reading it again from the start and try to write as much valuable information as possible in my notes.
Is there another thread on RWI where people chip away at metal, dunk dials in coffee, and bake them in an oven? This thread is truly a cultural heritage.

That is a fantastic post to celebrate the 100th page - a one-stop shop that, if followed minutely and to the letter will result in an awsome vintage Explorer.

Pretty sure that's the one but Karbon will confirm - that photo is 369Mafia's dial that he has recently done of the same dial.
Ken - of Raffles Dials - is not slow to nab a few good shots from this thread to advertise his wares - he had a few of mine from here to advertise the white lume dial version. I have no objection.
