Many thanks, for the pic also that’s really useful

Undecided on the bezel I need to re read through the thread but initially perhaps WSO and I know one of our fellow 1016 enthusiasts offers one.

Just used a big metal file my dad lent to me(pic below) being a novice I’m wary of power tools, I was surprised how quickly it ate through the steel I’d estimate around 20 mins per lug before refining the shape with finer and finer grades of sandpaper, I’d say around 40 mins for the polishing per lug

Hi guys, I went a different way and frankenized a 1018 from '68. The 1018 is an interesting reference and almost identical to the 1016. This is a link with a great introduction of the 1018.
I really like the gilt glossy dials so for now a Yuki dial is on stage (the feet had to be sanded down a bit because they were too long). It performs a really nice and clean Explorer feeling that I'm very happy with as a first try. May be I'll later try other combos. I don't think I will change back to the OP dial anytime soon.

i had a chance to do the same but i gave it pass...

Does anyone know how to remove a fixed link on a rivet bracelet?
I removed all of the possible removable links, but it is still one fixed-link too long. And the adjustable clasp can't be used either since the links' rivets get in the way.
Thanks

if its a raffles bracelet , then you will have to grind off or drill out the rivet and remove it.

My two 1016 builds thanks to the help here.
All Raffles cases / dials.

Tropic 1016 has Sternkreuz T21 UV glued to the case with WSO bezel widened to fit. NH38 with fial feet reattached. Rivet bracelet from Aliexpress with fixed links removed.

Black 1016 has little less aggressive lug reshaping. Also has stock flat sapphire crystal + WSO bezel (need slight widening to fit). I think I prefer a domed crystal look, so debating whether to swap the crystal or not to a T21. PT5000 mvmnt with Raffles hands.

The dremel Setup has a wobble if you use it as a drillpress. But in spite of this it worked well for me.
I use the setup with varios bits for sanding down the lugs. Have it up to 6000 from Ali and it saves a lot of time.

My pillar drill arrived yesterday, got straight into widening the lug holes for the 2.0 bars. Bit annoyed as the vice has a distorted deck so I found it a bit wobbly found I need to hold it in situ which wasn’t ideal. I should have waited for a better vice but my impatience got the better of me (again 😆)

As advised in this thread I started with a 1.1 bit and worked my way up to 1.25

I was amazed what light work the drill made of it all, pleased with it overall for a first attempt , one hole is slightly oval (on the back side so not visible) with a shouldered spring bar the bracelet and end link is rock solid, my shoulderless bars arrive this week so hopefully it will still remain snug.

If I were to do it again I’d definitely do it as the first step if I were to mess it up I’m not throwing hours of case work down the drain.

Next step is some refining to the case and then polish, once the spring bars arrive and I fit them I can use them as reference point to ensure that the case is symmetrical as possible

Anyway enough waffling onto the pics
