It's ok in the shade, looks a lot worse in the sun, the ground left stains around where they were placed and it doesn't really rub off. I think I will try a varnish to see if it looks better.

After much effort and some failure I have finally somewhat put together a decent build. Very rough around the edges but I'm proud.
Raffles case that I reshaped and drilled the holes for 2mm spring bars, broke 2 bits trying to drill them open
NH38 movement.
I'm waiting on a new dial in since I screwed up the aging on this dial and I'm also waiting for a raffles skinny crown.

I agree with the others I think the dial turned out nice!! It looks the part. I would try baking the hands now to see if you can match the lume
nice work on your frist build. Be proud it looks good!!

I just got my parts from Raffles and took a couple of macros of the dial to look at the printing and texture before I start working on it. Throwing them up here if anyone wants to take a look as well. These are in direct sunlight from the side so the texturing really shows.

I will need to improvise as I cannot remove the markers on a 5513 dial (and I won't relume)
maybe balls of rodico on them will do the trick

When I was working on my 1016 earlier I wanted to practice my brushing technique (lugs) so in I purchased another case from Raffles, this was one of the ones with a glued in crystal.

My impatience got the better of me so by the time it arrived I had finished my case so this case had sat in the drawer unused.

I have enough parts in the drawer to complete a 2nd watch so I thought I’d give it a go.

Took and awful lot of effort to split I had to use a pair of plumbers pliers on my case tool to get enough leverage to separate the case.

I have started by reshaping the lugs, I have removed some material from the tops and also from the sides to give it a lighter more vintage look.

I then polished the side and top of one the reshaped lugs, the top will be brushed but wanted to see it polished as it would allow me to see the shape of the lug more clearly to check for any irregularities

I’m looking to buy a drill press which should allow me to open up the spring bar holes (this should have been done first ideally)

I’d really like to lower the height of the rehaut, my plan is to use a large piece of coarse sandpaper n a flat surface and move the case across it to remove some of the material, I’ll then remove the same amount form the base of the crystal, on the bezel I thought I could split the amount between top and bottom, do you think this will work?

One thing I should have mentioned is that in the pics above I’ve only reshaped the two closest lugs the two towards the back of the image are untouched

Nice work so far. getting a good polish on the lug, there are no short cuts.

You could sand down the rehaut but it doesn't look like it will need much Its not something I have felt compelled to do on any of my projects What bezel do you plan on using? to maintain proportions of the crystal the bezel I dont think you would need to sand down the crystal much if any .

gen for reference

dremel drill press...
"I was hesitant because i was reading that it had some wobbling. seems it is good enough?"

I have not used a Dremel setup for drilling lugs and generally use a cheapo Harbor Freight bench type drill press for drilling lugs. Also have a Sherline milling machine but it has a screw feed and you can't tell how much resistance the bit is experiencing when drilling compared to a drill press.

Here is an example of the HF drill press for $99 USD:

Case tube threads for standard 6.0 and 7.0 crowns are 3.0mm x .35mm and when you look for 'case taps for Rolex case tubes' etc. you will find them for sale but usually at the 'Doctor Price'. I bought six for about $20 a few years ago from a machine tool supply house. It is a common size and they are relatively cheap unless the name 'Rolex' is mentioned. Some hobby shops may also have them.

Taps for 5.3mm case tubes are a different story because 2.5mm x .25mm is not a common size making them harder to find and usually more $$.
