I think they just remove the scratches, a raffle case after this process will look like a raffle case

I had a gen 1016 in hands month ago, the feeling when you clamp the case by hand is so different than a raffle build, everything feel round...

I think that they do polishing by hands, but shaping look like automatised

We try by hands here, I thought that gen 1016 had a good CNC program

I was thinking about your comment above. With careful hand filing, I was wondering how close one could get to that "organic looking" curve.

I got this build direct from JMB last month, it was his personal watch. Im pretty sure it’s a Whoopy dial based on the glossy black, gilt minute track and coronet and white printed space dweller text

I never even really looked twice at the Explorer A vintage Air King gen (5500 with silver dial) scratched the "plain Jane" itch for decades for me.

But after following this thread, and a little research on the side, I just ordered the parts to build 3 from Raffles (kind of addicted to vintage reps, and love the idea of a little light modding and aging).

Should have these built shortly after they arrive. An albino, a honeycomb dial, and a gilt dial.



Ordered the standard 1016 cases with acrylic crystal



and riveted Oyster bracelets



Wasn't positive on the correct hands, so ordered 2 sets of gold and one set of silver hands with the "dirty yellow" lume



Also picked up some of the Rafflestime hands (non-Mercedes) mentioned many posts up.



Not sure how I'll wind up combining the dials and hands, but it will be fun to experiment with. I've got a few weeks before they arrive to do some more research.

My raffles order arrived today and the 6610 dial is

I also helped him develop this dial. His earlier “6610” dial was poorly executed and since he had done the 6350 dial. It was the same pad print so I suggested he do a run of gilt gloss dials and honestly this may be his nicest dial to date. ( next to the 6350) of cpurse.

Raffle definitely bringing the heat in 2023

You can do you the mat varnish trick, it only add texture

For my attempt I used acrylic mat varnish but I think it can work, the thing to consider is to have a consistent result that will not fall a part and go in your movement...

good point. I was being too ecology conscious to avoid buying yet another chemical that I would use just a few times

But yes, varnish is perm fix and hair spray will biodegrade by design

Swapped the new Raffles 6610 dial into a JMB case with 1016l lover bezel and damn.

No ageing done to the dial. Only matched lume on hands.
