Tried my hand at hand luming yesterday, I sourced some vintage colour powder, the top 2 are just the vintage lume and the bottom is a mix of 50/50 vintage and regular lume powder.

Quite hard to photograph but pleased with the results, texture is what I’m after and I think with a bit of experimentation I can get the colour I want.

These were just some test hands I’ll be using some Raffles hand in my 1016

@HSV726 nice work on the relume. the texture looks great. was it how you mixed the power and binder or did you add another element to the lume mix I have heard that some people add salt, or sugar to achieve a texture

Thanks

No just lume powder, I did read up on using coloured chalk or coloured pencil lead to tint but after trying the mix of new and vintage powder I think I’m in the right area colour for what I want.

I’ve put some links below to the eBay listings

Vintage lume eBay

Regular lume eBay

The balance tack was a great tip made it much easier, I also applied the lume from below (all from the video below)

YouTube: Hand restoration

I like the ageing on your hands above (corrosion?) do you have any pointers for that?

(Forgot to add above)

Mixing - I just mixed manually with the stick provided not too vigorously just enough to remove any large lumps, I used the video above as ref for consistency, it was bit looser than expected in the dish but it seemed to spread evenly.
I did wonder about trying to mix the vintage and regular (each with a drop of the lacquer) separately then combining at the last minute with minimum mixing to try and get a bit of a variation of colour within each lume plot

Hey Guys,
did not have too much time the last weeks and months due to real live but here is a build update:

- Raffles case, heavily modified:
- Casework reworked to slim it down
- "gen" Ataya grown and tube (had to redrill and tap the case)
- redrilled springbar holes to take "gen" 2mm Springbars
- engraved by @newest dude on the forum

- Modified WSO Bezel
- lathed the underside
- inner diameter widened

- T21 from Selva (fits really good on raffles saphire case, sits tighter than my clarks)
- ebay provisional handset
- ruby MKII dial
- regulated NH38 (mainly for the lower beat rate)

To Dos:
- Propper Handset
- Other Bezel
- maybe redo my brushing on the case
- shorten springbars

The Case got a little "flat" on the flanks, dont know if i am doing another one but for now im quite happy. There is still the thing with the movement and the hands: I could use a low beat eta clone and that would help with helenarou hands, on the other hand the NH series is also a good workhorse and the hands will probably fit too, except the seconds. Bezel got a little uneven on the underside which you cant see but it bugs me somehow.

Fired up the hand drill to thread a case to accept the Athaya 24-600 crown and tube…

At first glance the Raffles “thin” 6mm and the Athaya are quite similar, but the Athaya crown is more “grippy”, and the wider tube offers a smoother wind and “more turns to close”. A small upgrade, but a nice detail worth doing IMO.

Nice one. I hope you got rid of the small metal pieces :)

Nice build - very similar to mine, the only major difference is that I have a Yuki dial in mine. But NH38, Raffles modified case, T21 and better bezel are in common. My next step will be to contact @newest dude on the forum for engraving… also looking to engrave the caseback with the Bund codes.
