My dealer confirmed it is a SH3255 V2, no DD movement yet.
I guess the old one is identical to the new one, just with a different balance bridge setup? I see a listing for a fair price and was wondering (they might even send the new one now, who knows)The guide has been updated thanks for the guidance of @KJ2020... the movement in your picture is the old version of the VR3186 (aka vr3185). The way to tell: 1) arms face outwards 2) screw on the end of the beat adjustor arm, 3) brass cup for shock setting.
It depends on what your priorities are. We haven’t seen many failures of the vr3255 like we did with the early sh3285 which had a weak setting lever. However that might have been due to sampling bias — we saw rapid adoption of the sh3285 in popular GMT models, so there were a lot more sh3285 setting levers out there to break. We know the vr3255 is based on the same design as the sh3285, so it likely shares the same weak setting lever issue. Or, it shared that issue when it was first released. We haven’t seen many broken vr3285 setting levers recently, so it’s possible (likely) that Shanghai has fixed the issue. So I’d say the vr3255 v2 is probably a safe movement at this point.Afternoon all, I’ve been thoroughly reading this thread on the differences between the VR3255 movements for 36mm QF DayDates compared to the GMF version with A2836 movement. Most TD’s seem to offer both and wondered, given the VR3255 came in out in 2023, is it safe to now go with this movement or is it best to stick with A2836? Thank you!!!
Interesting. Where did you see this re-posted on reddit? I posted the original version there several years ago, but I stopped updating that version since Reddit limits posts to 20 images. My original Reddit version now has a note and a link at the top of the post telling people to come this version which I try to keep up to date. But I know this article has been re-published (by others) elsewhere. I don't mind the article being shared elsewhere, but I worry that there will be zombie / out of date versions published elsewhere that will fall out of date over time if they don't include a link to this canonical version.First saw this re-posted on Reddit. This is AWESOME info. As confusing as the clone world is at first, the movements themselves are the most confusing part!
Yup that’s the OG version. And it has the link to this version so hopefully folks who find the Reddit version will make their way here for the latest and greatest edition.I'm assuming this is your OP on reddit, because the link is there.
