dogwood, thank you for your kind offer to adjust the chrono hand, is it a lengthy process? Also if Im coming up to Van whats the best way to get in touch, perhaps send a message on RWI?
Ive also asked Jerry, the Clean rep, if he can send me a photo of the back of their 126500 showing the movement. I dont know if he will but if so I'll post it here. Im concerned he either made a "mistake" telling me the movement is DD4131 or has perhaps Clean just switched supplier to DD? Also in your opinion which factory makes the best 116500, is it Clean? I would check this myself but cant download the spreadsheet of best rep watches as Google has blocked my account, very annoying. Is it possible to get it from somewhere other than Google docs?
Send me a DM if you’re coming north.

Whoever Jerry is made a mistake. Clean 12-series Daytonas all use the sh4131. If Clean factory suddenly changed movement suppliers to Dandong for their 12-series Daytonas, they wouldn’t be keeping it a secret. There would be announcements everywhere if they made a change like that.

For 11-series Daytonas the “best” is probably Clean or BTF or somebody else depending on which exact model you’re looking at. there are fewer differences between the Shanghai and Dandong 4130 movements than there are on the 4131 movements; Dandong is still better, but the gap isn’t as large.

For 11 series I recommend VSF , same as CLEAN but VSF xtal and cheaper... is the GOAT now for 11 series in panda and gozilla.

@dogwood Its now confirmed that the DD4132 has a 24 hour counter at 9:00. This new version is available from td’s. I have confirmed this with my td today.

Yeah I saw the promo poster on WeChat yesterday. I haven’t asked any sellers, but I remain skeptical that we’re looking at a modified movement and not just a 12 hour counter with 24 hour tick marks on the dial. Modifying the hour counting chronograph works to add an additional 1:2 reducer was tricky for Rolex. I’d be surprised if Dandong went to the effort of implementing this reducer for a somewhat niche variant of the 12-series Daytona. But I’ll be sure to update the guide if/when we see a picture of the movement with the modification.

I think this is legit for one reason. QF has been selling this model for quite some time now. This is now their third or fourth revision. They’ve stated explicitly that it was modified for 24 hour counter. Bit we’ll see! I’m going to be a guinnea pig and get one.

can someone explain what this movement is??

says 4131 makes sense. except it had a gold colored weight. which ive only seen so far on the lemans or artisan models.

looks like the spring is wound clockwise, and all ballbearings on the rotor. but also of note, the caseback is see through??? did they take pictures of the wrong watch or what?

I have the a QF tungsten Le Mans that I love! It would be awesome to see it actually have a 24hr counter, but it is certainly nothing I would use. The translation above says, "It's really 24 hours"!!!! Lol! With mine now WG plated, there would have to be a considerable upgrade, externally, to make me sell this and start all over. ;) But I never will say never. That YG version is awesome!

This is the platinum version. They have a see-thru case back as well.

Yeah I ordered the regular weight version of the new Lemans today. It was $200 less than the heavy version so it was a no brainer for me. My td claims that he’s 100% sure it’s modified to have a 24hr counter. And it’s supposed to be a DD movement which is awesome. AND the price isn’t any higher. So it could be a great pick. I’ll find out when he gets it and has time to test the hour counter. I’ll come here first to give my findings.

Sounds like the typical dealer confusion, my TD swears its a 24hr counter but says it's an SH movement 😅

I ordered the heavy, time will tell.

Post updated to include the update to the SH3285 movement -- now called the SH3285-2 movement. So far we've seen this movement only in QF Explorer 2s, but we should expect to see it roll out into all GMTs / Exp 2s from factories that previously used the SH3285. Like the previous update to other SH movements, this movement moves the regulator and beat adjustor to point outwards making it look similar to Dandong movements. However, the hairspring coil direction remains a foolproof way to distinguish between the two movements:
  • Clockwise coil = Dandong
  • Anti-clockwise coil = Shanghai.

Hi Dogwood,

Massive thanks for putting together this guide!

I was wondering if you (or anyone else) happens to know whether the updated version of the SH/VR3285 still has the same issues as the older version (specifically with the quality of the setting lever), or if those issue have now been resolved?

I don’t know. But I can say that I haven’t seen any Sh3285 v2 movements on my bench with broken setting levers. Make of that what you will.
