Its "Marketing" at its finest. Built-in flaws to justify an "improvement". Well, wait for version 3. Its already in the planning stage. The "flaws" in this new V2, are already itemized to justify version 3. And a price hike of course. Just like any other product, cars, cell phones, or anything nowadays. In the business world, its called justifiable improvements for the masses! LOL ! That's what keeps smart buyers from ever biting into this thing. And there are a ton of smart guys out there that would have tripled their initial sales if they "did it right" the first time !!!!.........just my take and honest opinion here  ..........so, lets see how this "improved version" goes, .......................back in the merry-go-round.

I don't complain about rising prices because quality is increasing too. These watches are so accurate that it's crazy. I haven't been around as long as Dan and RSH , but I know good reps were close to $1k many years ago. Looking back at them , they weren't even as good as what's out now. The market also dictates prices. Just like any other product. It's not overpriced if it sells out. If I were the maker , I would've sold this for more.

Can't blame the maker, it's business. I believe I would do the same if the first run sold out in 24 hours. I'm completely happy spending 350-400$ on a rep this good.

Lol, on the overhyped PT thread I had doubts about the "super" rep designation for this v1. A bit sad to see I was right. All that talk and they did such a shoddy job on finishing and QC.

I must respectfully disagree. These ETA clones are cheap, I can buy the movement in bulk for 55 USD, and at that price the watch parts guy is still making his profit. There is no way the movement is what is jacking up the costs this high, its all demand and how much we are willing to pay.

It is demand and economics of course, I'm definitely not going to argue with you there, R.

Too tired to type out what I meant re movements. I can't find the post I made a few months ago listing all the rep prices paid over the course of the past 5-7 years. For instance I paid $350+ for the V1 swissfish back in 2007 or 2008. But, it had a gen swiss ETA in it.

I'm not making sense. I'm exhausted. :bi_polo:

Yeah, what he said!

Besides, the golden rule in making reps is to never make a perfect rep. Not only that, but making a perfect rep would take away all the fun of modding them to be perfect.... nobody wants that!

price = demand² over supply

The only thing driving price is us. As long as we buy they will sell at what the market will bear.

Guys,

Whoever told you there would be a price increase on the V2? I never, ever said this, i don't even know IF there will be a price increase, and IF so, how much it will be. Any information you get that doesn't come from me is pure speculation, and this also goes for other TDs to be honest, because i am the one closest with ZF and i am the one that communicates with him directly for all of the reps he makes.

Also, another point, i am tired of hearing this "built-in" flaws stuff, it is pure BS and actually is NOT good for the rep industry, at all. Let's look at this logically, instead of being negative:

Scenario 1 - Maker makes perfect rep:
End Result: Maker and the factories who make the parts know exactly how to make it perfect from the beginning, means less prototyping (which costs a lot of money and time) = faster turnaround time for new stock + cheaper build costs = consistent stock = more money immediately + better reputation for being an amazing Maker = more hype for the Maker.

Scenario 2: Maker does not make perfect rep:
End Result: Maker has to either find new factories or go back and continuously tweak parts, which the factories charge heavily for, this delays new stock and delays immediate sales and immediate liquid cash flow to then invest into buying more gens to make more reps + all of you guys groan and complain and hate them for it (and yes, they know, believe it or not)

The Makers DO want to make a perfect rep, look how far the industry has progressed! Any of you been here for 6-7 years now? Do you guys remember what we were dealing with then? Look what materials are used now, look at the errors now, we are talking about the most minute of errors these days, for the hot watches. I believe soon we will see perfect reps, or at least 99% reps.

I will be away until the end of the week, info contained within the link, but i had to answer this and do damage control, because these types of talks and mindsets are so counterproductive that i classify this as an urgent situation: http://forum.replica-watch.info/vb/showthread.php?t=178996&p=1806710#post-1806710

Bro can you please PM me, i am sorry, i have no idea how i missed your previous PM, i don't "dick" anyone around, i am NOT known for that. So again my apologies and please get in touch and let's see what we can do to make you happy and to correct this error.

I'm definitely in for the V2. I hope I get a good apple from the batch this time... I was a early adopter of the V1 and got dicked by PT. Mines arrived with bent hands that hit the indices. Hands so bent it damaged the lume on the hands. Contacted Angus multiple times and nothing.

A TD told me that he doesn't even know if there will be a price increase. So all this talk of the factory purposely botching version 1 just to justify a price increase for a v2 is pure speculation at best.

I shouldn't have made the comment jokingly saying that upgrade 7 was a 50 dollar price increase.. That got blown out of proportion. I don't know what the price will be.

It did however bring up an interesting discussion and I would still stand by my opinion that many of the things being touted as "upgrades" are merely fixes of things that were unacceptable and known prior to release of the first run. I'd hope the movement issues are on the short-list of things to get straight on the v2 though, that is really what stopped me from getting the v1.

With all due respect Zebra, you don't know that, and it's speculation and opinion on your part. Let's say they get a cyclops that isn't exact but it's really close. These guys are under pressure by customers, dealers and investors to get the rep built and sold. The guy putting it together just wants some cash so he can feed his family. It's not like they mess up shit on purpose to get you on the hook for a V2, they do these in batches. They might have a bit more time to refine, sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't have that luxury. I'm also sick of these conspiracy theories. I have the V1 and love it. I'm happy if there is a v2, v3 so others can enjoy them. That's the way this hobby used to be.

I'm really happy for the possibility of a v2.

If you got already bought a v1, just sell it and get a v2. They are easy to sell and it will be a small premium to get the v2.

What's the issue with the V1? The only small, and I mean tiny issue that I have is a slight difference in lume colour in the hands and dial. The rest is just awesome. One of the best reps I own!

Huge improvement on the pearl - or not.
The major improvement missing yet - at the $318 price-tag is true water-resistant to 10 ATM otb.
Hope the issue with seconds hand touching dial or glass or hour-hand on many samples gets finally fixed. Just a tiny little bit more careful assembly and a touch of grease is needed.
Wanted to resist but will have to get the blue as well.

Mine passed Angus's pressure test but I've not pressure tested mine. Never knew about the seconds hand touching the glass or other hands. Must have been lucky.
