Ale, any chance you're going to order a KW 292 for review? The pictures look good and I have always been satisfied with KW products, but in this case it's competing against a really solid noob version. This is a watch that may warrant a four way comparison between gen, KW, noob and H-fact. Thanks to those of you who have posted some very helpful pictures. Anyway, I have been doing a little homework and have a few observations:
1. Dial: From what I can see from the photos, the dial on KW is really top notch. Compariing it to the pictures on the panerai site, nothing really stands out as a flaw. If Ale did one of his fancy analysis and super imposed the gen and KW dials, there might be some differences but nothing that would stop me from adding this watch to the collection.
Of all the 292 reps, the KW dial looks to be the best.
2. Case: I have always been impressed with the finish on KW's cases. My experience is, however, limited to SS watches. I am optimistic, but I'll wait to see some more photos and here from some of you "beta testers" first. I am really curious to see how it compares to the noob case, which is really nice!! Same goes for the color, which is really hard to judge from pictures. Based on pictures alone, the movement on the noob still looks better. The case back on the KW looks really good as well.
3. Movement: Although this watch has a solid CB, the engravings on the noob movement look deeper and wider like the gen. It is also apparent that KW is also using a I-incabloc. I am not sure whether noob is using the same updated movement on the 292 as it uses on the 111, but (if so) that would be a noteworthy upgrade. Maybe one of you noob 292 owners can way in on this point???
4. Crown: It appears that all of the makers are using DLC coated SS, which is a good thing IMO. The big radiomir crown is weak point on the watch that will bumped dinged and absorb impact if the watch is dropped. While ceramic is a harder and more scratch resistant material, it is far more brittle than SS. I would rather have a SS crown than worry about having a crown that can crack. As another member pointed out, the upper edge on the gen crown is polished. I can't tell whether this is the case on the KW (or noob and h-fac for that matter). The polished edge doesn't show in the photos on the panerai site, but that doesn't mean anything.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing some more pictorials and hearing from some of you KW v1 "beta testers".
