I am done with the hands. I did not fully color match, they are a shade lighter, just like on my 1016. But they do look good.

Assembly tmrw if all goes well. If I am lucky, the overall fusion will look good.

Thanks for the tip! Luckily I found someone with a drill press, so that will be much easier. :D I just found the Submariner book, will use that as my bible. Once I get all the tools I'll start documenting it here also.
I can confirm that I've just received one. In addition, you can choose an index lume of your choice.

any feedback on what I could have done better?
nope, not if you are happy with it! Thats the goal. Id say you nailed it.

The texture on teh dial looks different is it the lighting or did you change something?

bad light and sharp upfront angle. It flattens things...and even the color looks murkier than it is really
I need to do another series of varnish to seal the paint.

I saw an old post from the 1016 thread where the texture was even grainier, so I will aim for that.

I get a nice, textured finish by lightly spraying with clear enamel. Spray light enough that the little blobs of paint don't flow together to make a smooth surface. Multiple, light applications is the key.
I always thought it looked like a finish that's been through a few thousand cycles of humidity and drying, which lots of older watches get when they're not 100% waterproof, or when they're set in humid conditions over and over (like on a dive boat, etc).

in the realm of crazy ideas 😁
I started luming a dial, using masking tape for the rectangular and triangular indices, but was at a loss for how to do the circles, other than freehand...this might be the solution.

why don't you just scan the dial and do a cricut stencil on vinyl? as you bought the machine?

Yes, that's one of the options, but the stickers I bought were too sticky, and damaged the dial when removed (they were "permanent" stickers). I ordered temporary ones, but haven't really played with them, as I'm still sorting out the waterslide decal techniques, negative and positive.

My problems is, I got too many new toys, and haven't had enough time to learn to use them.

Pad printer is still in the box, because I have too many balls in the air for my level of competence and free time, lol.

Hey all!,

Just wanted to let you guys know that received the watch from Marvellous about a week ago (sorry for the late update...been busy) :/

Anyway, as this is my first rep and being the 5513 that i loved as a child in Live And Let Die, that's what i purchased from him (the JKF one).
On the plus side, the watch is a good starting point and open to many options; I am not sure about doing any real work on this first rep but, as of now, i'd just like to write a little review of what i have ;).

Marvellous Replicas are a good experience all round. Their communication is second to none; mainly Whatsapp but also email has been good too.
The overall price was good for what quality you get - As far as i know, i've been led to believe that there aren't many that actually do the correct size 26mm dial...so that's good.

The case quality is good (at least for me) - Again, i'm not sure i'm going to mod the case, i'm unsure. I am a qualified engineer by trade so it wouldn't be an issue but it's not a high priority.

I have been making some purchases lately:-
1. Helenarou Dial & Handset as near as possible to the one in 'Live And Let Die' movie - the quality of the dial and hands are superb i have to say; the details are very crisp and as i requested the markers on the dial to be white (or slightly off-white)...they are perfect. Price was around $130 total.
2. The bezel (as i had read many times) was rather loose than i'd thought. I removed the bezel and the tension spring wasn't that curved so i curved it more significantly, but upon replacing the bezel, although it was tighter, it was still too loose - the spring looked rather second hand in my opinion, so i decided to purchase a new swiss made replacement (price around £25).
Long story short, once it arrived, i instantly knew it was going to be much stronger when testing the flex. Once installed after a slight bend, the bezel is perfect! - Not too tight to not turn but at the same time, once set, can't really move it without a bit of force.
3. I've ordered some 2mm pins for the end links for the bracelet and will drill the lug holes and fit accordingly.

All in all, once everything is together, i'll post images here soon ;). For a first rep, and that i wished for a more newer looking 5513, i think i'll be happy.

I am considering purchasing a VN Rolex 6538 from Phong; If anyone can help me on that, it would be good to know or if anyone has one for sale, i might be interested!.

I have already purchased a 18mm strap from WatchGecko - Now on the whole, it is a good strap. I haven't managed to find a good 16mm version but nevertheless, i am searching for an appropriate buckle to match the real one...which is difficult. If i can't, i will probably try my best to create my own...but we'll see on that.

I'll do the work on the 5513 first and see how i feel about modding it further but for adding gen parts, i'm not sure i will bother as of yet.
The 6538 though, the prices of the VN are hefty from what i've seen, but i'd appreciate any advice on that ;).

I'll be back soon with updates and images of the 5513 watch.

See ya soon guys!

you would be missing the most enjoyable part. This is when the watch becomes "yours" as the metal shapes under your hands
