Gilt gloss 5513 with aged dial and tropical insert.

Specs:

  • Raffles 5513 case set with black insert, domed crystal.
  • Raffles Dial Gilt gloss with yellow lume
  • WSO Tudor sub hands gilt
  • Raffles Sub 93150 bracelet with 580 end links to fit 2.0mm spring bars and improved clasp stamping.
  • Asian 2824-2 clone movement.
  • #445 2 position setting lever
  • 2.0mm gen spec spring bars

Dissembled case set:

  • Painstakingly hand carved beautiful crisp chamfers into the mid case and case lugs and then polished to a smooth shine
  • Shaped the inside crown guards for a more gen appearance with appropriate tolerances observed compared to genuine examples.
  • Machined bottom edge of bezel to resemble a gen shape
  • Enlarged lug holes to 1.3mm to fit gen spec spring bars.
  • softened the edges of the case to resemble a well cared for older tool watch.
  • Age the hands and lume to an exact match of the dial
  • Aged the dial surface using a plethora of techniques to give the appearance of moisture and age and to represent the degradation of the finish of the dial over the decades where the lume has changed to a faded light yellow tone.
  • Aged the lume with specs of dirt to give the appearance of age and use consistent of an watch this age.
  • Aged insert to a beautiful tropical chestnut brown that appears black at first until hit with directly light and then the beautiful warm chestnut tones of the faded insert are revealed , making this time piece unique and special.
  • Aged the case set and bracelet by dulling the polished surfaces and adding marks and blemishes that are consistent with use and age of a tool watch.
  • removed date wheel and associated parts from movement to remove ghost date changes
  • installed #445 2 position setting lever to remove ghost position on stem .
  • assembled watch and tested for function .
  • greased seals

You guys are causing me to be "pre-disappointed" in my own 5513, which I am still a ways from starting. Great work, beautiful builds.

It's a saying I heard a long time ago. I asked my prom date if she was excited about going with me.
dang!! lol when expectations are rock bottom, they can only improve
I am almost certain that your 5513 will turn out better than your prom date :ROFLMAO:

If it doesn't try killing me 20 years after the build, I'm pretty sure you're correct, lol.

@369mafia
how would you compare the build experience of using Raffles parts vs a JKF base?
The Raffles dial being bigger, does that affect the watch proportions? or is the extra diameter "hidden" ?

I was thinking of using a 5513 dial from Raffles in a JKF case, but shaving 1.5mm on the perimeter looks like it would eat into the markers

Sorry to interject but...i think you might be right @Karbon74
1.5mm looks pretty close on those dials...a shame :/

Forgot about the rehaut...yeh i'd say it's a no go really. You'd think that given the JKF case is pretty accurate to gen; in terms of dial size specifically, if the JKF factory got their hands on a gen case and shaped it propery without the need for modders to the do it, just think what they could attain in the community!

Accuracy at a very reasonable price...they would sell like hot cakes i think ;)
