ok I trashed the bezel insert 😱
the paint was not going away uniformly and left an ugly pattern

so this is going to be a service bezel insert thin font 😉

guys,

do you know where I can find JKF 5513 or 5512 dials? they are 26mm

if you have some unused from builds you made with other dials, I will be happy to buy them

Another thing about the Cousins insert...it is slightly larger than the JKF...I had to sand the outside...

...but the benefit is that I got a nice pressure fit like gen. No tape glue needed now 😁

Insert did not take a deep fade, but I managed to give it a credible used look...Which makes a lot of sense for a service insert replaced after.

I am done now. Assembly tmrw.

The dial will be a surprise reveal. 😅

I tried to replicate an old gilt dial but I am unsure of my success

I think it looks great, but what matters is if you like it. There is so much variation in how these dials age, that this is definitely within the realm of plausibility. I personally like some texture to a dial, unless it is meant to emulate a pristine glossy dial. And to me, the brown lume reveals a lifetime of adventure (and probably misadventure).

thank you!😍
you got it perfectly.

Indeed it is supposed to have lost its glossiness through time and distress, with the varnish that has decayed under the sun

My concern was whether I overdid the brown. The dial lost in contrast between the plots and the black.

It looks good. I can't say if the brown is overdone...I've certainly overdone aging myself in the past. I'd Google a few dozen images and see if it's consistent with anything you can find. As mentioned, these are found in every condition from near new to "ground zero" and everything in between.

So is this a Raffles dial, DIY, or other?

Brother, you are a genius. Stupidly, I did not think about doing a reverse google on my dial.

JKF stock...But I painted the plots almost at human pixel level. It took me hours

Then I baked it. It went a little above what I intended TBH, but looking at the search, it's pretty spot on actually

The texture is fine, the brown is ok if I account for the light and the concentric ring is there too on one of the dials

As far as these go, you nailed it.

Id say you did a great job on the dial aging. the color of the lume is of personal taste but I think you have made something that is certainly passable and looks the part no doubt nice work !!
