Hmmm I’ve just sold my VSF as the lume colour really really bugged me and I am just not sold that the ZF and ORF are any better, with their own additional flaws. They all feel like you are wearing a rep.
The ZF really is much better than the VSF as far as lume color, but you're right, they do all feel like you're wearing a rep, and that's because you are. These Chinese factories can't produce watches identical to those costing 10-20x more, it's just not possible (at least at the $3-400 price point we're talking about here).
After a fair number of reps I've come to the conclusion that even for the best it's pretty easy to know one from the other upon handling if you have any experience with the real deal. The good part is that on the wrist it's often hard to tell and is especially difficult to spot on someone else's. And that's for someone really in the know, the average person would never, ever, ever be able to spot some of the things stressed out about on this site as "major tells."
I'm pretty critical and I have come to realize that there are some flaws I can live with and some I can't. I had a GF Breitling Avenger II that was really quite amazing, so close to perfect, but it had one flaw that I couldn't stand. The bezel wasn't perfectly flat and you could tell by the way it caught the light. Hell, the gen might even be like that, but it was something I couldn't live with. The white dial VSF SMP was the same, perfectly fine to me except for the yellow lume. This ZF is no Omega, it can't be, but (as for now) it has reached that bar of acceptability in my eyes. I'm not going around flaunting that I have an Omega on my wrist and lying about it, but I'm proud knowing that I have a darn good looking watch on that everyone will think is an Omega.
To end my diatribe, I think it comes down to what you can accept and what you can't. Some people flip about certain things and other people don't even notice them. Overall, I feel the ZF is a big leap ahead of the other factories for the SMP, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
