Hi guys, wanted to get some help from you all in confirming authenticity of this 15400 dial, before I send it for fitting. Everything I know and see points to it being Gen, but somehow the tappisserie isnt as "deep" or "3D" or "bulge out" as a gen ive seen, although that was in a different colour.

Not sure if its just nuances between dial versions or my imagination.

This has the old AP logo too. I paid market price range for it.

Will appreciate some input from you experts (legend?), many thanks!

Just to illustrate the "3D" or "bulge" I mentioned, this effect isnt something I see with the above dial. It was something I noticed with the gen I handled.

Could have something to do with the dial not being installed in the watch yet hence playing with light / shadows differently, but just thought i'd ask you pros anyway. Thanks in advance!

Definitely gen please don't worry.
There are variations in the silver (and in fact blue, grey and black too) dials. Your dial is an early H/I series one. But definitely gen.

Wait what?!? Am I understanding you correctly, this a 3126 based on the newly released clone 3120 clone movement? If that’s the case, that’s absolutely amazing plz provide us with more details :)

+1

flying-tommy please let us know on this:rolleyes:

To be honest the clone 3120 is great news for the hobby. Only wish they have spent a little more effort cloning the date change mechanism correctly rather than rush the release and still call it a clone movement when it is not. The only "complication" in the AP cal. 3120 is the date function and if this is not done correctly, it does not deserve the "clone" nomenclature IMHO.

flying-tommy How does using the “clone” 3120 change the other aspects of the build? Does it throw off the height of the tube at all? I found that the stem height is higher on the LWO and so if I used a 3120 clone instead of the 2892 then the stem height would be lower.

like I said, nothing is plug and play.

everything had to be adjusted and modified. it was hell of a job.

the date flip function cannot be modified. the whole mechanism is completely different. even with gen parts it won't fit as the base is different.

maybe the factory will come out with a V2, V3, V4 to change it.
I personally don't think so as the mechanism is much more complex and involved and probably only a small group (like us) is calling for this update.

it will not be profitable to manufacture.

Nevertheless, I find it remarkable to finally see an open caseback that does not immediately present an LWO. especially when you know how much work and knowledge went into the creation of the end product.
