@Watchpan It's a VSF. It does look small, because it is. You are missing a big enough crown, this one is too small. But why worry, if it looks big enough for you? You won't be flashing it on IG, will you?
It's not that obvious IRL, don't worry about it 👍

Which crown model does the gen use? 24-604?

Hi, I've been following this discussion. I'm about to buy a Clean 39mm, however the VSF 40mm has put that on hold. What I am most interested in is the "premium" experience - that intangible quality of holding a precision piece with the feel of winding, movement accuracy/stability, bracelet and all the other small details.

Viewed in this way - which is the consensus? VSF 40 or Clean 39? And If not the VSF....how long before they get their act together do you think..?

Both VSF and Clean have their act together with the explorer 1, I can assure you 🤣, I’ve had both Clean 39 and VSf 40, kept 40mm vsf one as preferred the larger size (this was before clean released 40mm). Like with all reps there are minor issues here and there, if you want a flawless watch buy a genuine one.
Any size (36/39/40mm) of either clean or vsf are amongst some of the best watches you can get. I view my vsf 40mm as the best watch I have/ had in recent months it’s that good, all are tbf.
Just pick the one you want and enjoy it

I see. Thank you. As you can tell I am new to all of this :) Regarding the movement in particular...what would I need to do to get one of these up to COSC levels of accuracy? I am willing to send this to a rep friendly local watchmaker

You could send to a watchmaker who works on Reps to have a full service, but unless there are issues, ie running very slow/fast or bad cosmetic issue that needs fixing then it might be a waste of money imo. My explorer is gaining 3 secs per 24hrs, I’m very happy with that and it’s not been serviced.
I have never had a watch serviced but I know some people like to have their watches serviced. Everyone is different.

COSC accuracy? lol don't believe the rep lies. It's a replica movement. Maybe somebody gets lucky and gets a movement that can fall into COSC but rep movement is rep movement. If you want "accuracy" in a watch, don't buy a replica - stick to your gens and quartz.

Even with a full service on a rep movement - it will not guarantee anything about accuracy.

Regulating a rep movement takes my watchsmith 5 minutes tops. Most of my VS movements ran very accurately OOTB, but were made even more accurate with a little help of a timegrapher, a screwdriver and a couple of drops of oil. But as @Reaps has said - go TC/HAQ or GPS/atomic clock assisted quartz if you need your watch to be extremely accurate.

Right, we're definitely not talking HAQ levels :)

I'm coming from an NH35 where I was getting +15s/day and that bothered me. +5 would be really good. So we cannot make any definitive statements about "average quality" between the two movements? Or is the variance so great that it's meaningless to demand the VS, on the off-chance it comes in better shape?

I don't think that any of my VS movements ever ran over 5s/d, they were all very solid. They also have a very good PR, don't have loud rotors and have very smooth handwinding. Just get one, you're overthinking it, trust me 👍

Did Clean actually release the 40mm version? I haven't noticed any mentions of it?
