Owhoops
If trb1971 runs close to his running mate (seems to be a she) his doing well.
Finish time could be about 4h40'.
May be a little more cause since km25 they run a little slower.
But it's definitely a Sub5 and that's very good considering his PB on 5km and 10km.
Hope some other members of the RWI Running Club will be there to cheer when they pass the line.

The "other half" is a 38km and doing pretty good ... on her way for a 4h40' or less.
If she bites the bullet it could be sub 4h38' and a negative split !!!
I hope our friend is running well too.

It seems the last kms have been really hard to run, but 4h45' is still a very good time for a first marathon.
Cheers and Cheers.

I got 2 hrs 09 mins plus some more :)
the missus actually finished in 4.45 which she is really chuffed with. I dont think my chip worked.
So I petered off, after a while, the missus was runing good 10s at a steady pace. I was ok with that for a while but between 10-15k or so, diamondhead kicks in and god it was hot and hard to do.

I settled in for the next 10 or 20k or so but I dropped down to nearly 12 min miles.
The sun had comes out and it got even warmer.

The last 5k killed me, it skirts back round diamondhead and that was hard secondtime round. It was tough bit I got 5:24 on the watch so I'm happy...my feet hurt but I'm happy :)

Right its time for some fruit then hit the pool

CONGRATS trb1971 !!!
5h24' is still a good time if we consider your PB on a 10km.
I had estimated your possible time with the tool I use for myself and you were supposed to finish around 5h29' (I kept that for myself cause I did not want to be discouraging).
Most people run slower than predicted and you have run faster.
So 5h24' is VERY GOOD.
As we, French people, say ... BRAVO !!!
Enjoy your first PB on the distance and be sure next one you'll do a SUB 5h00' (30' will be an easy cut down with a good training plan).

BTW the missus (your wife ?) is a real pacing machine.
To bad she slowered a little after de 25km and a little more at the end ... she was not far to do a negative split (which few people do).
Was it her first attempt on a marathon ?
If YES it's really impressive.
Congrats to her too.

Thanks for all the cheering guys ?? I did go round thinking I gotta get to the end so I can post a good time

And @manodeoro thanks for that, that is awesome stuff, and yeah she negatives splits too, the reason she slowed at 25km was she went to the restroom, and like I said before that last bit was tough, and really energy sapping hot. TBH if it was the same course and somewhere colder it wouldn't have been as hard.

Oh and I forgot to say, I'm having a week off running and then the training is starting again. I've not got anything planned but I'm gonna train as if I am and use some new Oakley radarpace glasses to see how they do as a training aid.
Weirdly when Imwas running and for the first hour after finishing there was no way on this planet that I was EVER going to run a marathon again. I guess that runners high has kicked in

Also when I get home, I might try and design us a running club shirt if I can.

I'll keep everyone posted on everything

Thansk again everyone, you and the missus really did get me round.

About the fact that your chip didn't work, may I suggest you to file a complaint ?
You paid about 390 $ entry fees for :
- race organisation
- drink and food stations
- finisher t-shirt and medal
- tracking bip
- finisher certificate
- offical run time
If I'm true, as your bip didn't worked, you wont get any official run time, so you can consider you have been scammed (even if not intentionaly).
It is the organization's responsability (not yours) to check that all the bips work well.
So you should ask for some partial refund or, at least, a free entry for the 2017 edition.

Welcome to the "never again / just one more / cant stop doing this" addiction land my friend.
Running game is quite like Reps Game, you keep on saying "that's my last one" and then ... see what I mean ?

Be proud of your running time cause YOU did it and nobody else ... Jet lag + dampness + hot temperature ... You've learned the hard way.
So cherish your new PB a lot cause you won't keep it long ...
Choose your next marathon attempt neatly (flat race profile, as near to your place as possible, during spring to get cool weather ...) and get a good custom training plan, adapted to your previous PB, your availability, work schedule and lifestyle, and of course your age (sorry for that last point).
That way your next race time will be SOOO MUCH shorter that you will really wonder how you managed to do such a huge cutt off.

About the" RWI Running Club" t-shirt ...
It really is an interesting idea but it could be a little problematic.
Anybody can run a race, even some peole working on fraud repression (I know a guy who runs a lot AND works at the DGCCRF ... French Fraud Repression Agency).
Of course RWI could be the acronym for something like "Runner's Worldwide Institute"
I think we should at least ask the board about this before going further.

They have actually sorted that one, we went down to pick up our finishers certificates and of course there wasn't one for me as the chip didn't work. (I know what my watch says so I'm good) but they did say it can happen sometimes and that they will give us BOTH a discount if we do it again. So they have been brilliant about it. I got a shirt, a medal a banana and a donut thing at the end and it was all fun to do so I'm good.

The completing it was reward enough

Thnks again man, Andy yeah I wouldn't do anything without running it past the big guys themselves. I have n idea or 3 for a design so we'll see what happens

Getting To Know The Place

Ok, so I am thinking about joining in. One of the guys sent an office email out with details of an upcoming marathon, in March. So I was thinking, as a way to challenge myself, to set a goal of getting in shape enough to run in at least the 10K event and to actually participate in the event. Sign-up for the event has already started and its only € 24 + 10 for a shirt. It says they had 13,000 runners last year and its a relatively flat course.

Opinions, should I give it a shot? I'm 38, 260 lbs. and lazy. Despite my size, I wouldn't really say I eat bad, I don't like fast food or junk snacks, so really I just need to stop drinking those damned energy drinks (Monster) and become much more active.

I'd say cardio wise, I should be good since I already do 25K+ per week on elliptical machines with the difficulty turned up, so I just need to adapt and train those muscles for real running. What do you think, is 92 days enough time to prepare?

Here a link to the event if anyone is curious. http://www.limassolmarathon.com/index.php

Do not THINK ABOUT joining ... just JOIN :greedy:

And sign-up for the 10K :
- the race seems really flat
- it's next march so the weather won't be too hot
- 10K is an easy distance if a little trained
- 34€ entry fees is almost cheap

About your last question "is 92 days enough time to prepare ?"
I would say YES ... it's ENOUGH ... if your only goal is to pass the finish line
But the training has to be adapted on your health condition.

I'm a little more concerned about your weight, if I may.
260lbs aka 130kgs !!!
It's not really a "runner's weight".
1 - Are you REALLY tall ?
2 -do you pratice BODY BUILDING ?
3 - do you drink THAT MUCH energy drink ?
If you're 1 or 2 you will just have to take care of your knees.
If you are 3 ... a 10km run could be dangerous

So gives us some details about your size and health.

And please, stop drinking "energy drinks".
Those products are "NOT ENERGY" they are just "BAD SUGAR".
OF NO USE for short distances (you do not need them) and BAD for medium and long distances (it can cause hypoglycemia).
From my own little experience I can attest that an average man (that's what I am) can run short, medium and ultra distance (up to 100km or more) without any energy drink and that plain water with just some lemon juice (+ a little pinch of salt for ultra distances) will be much better for the body.
