Hi you all ... seems everybody's dead here ?
@trb1971 / @mincus8 / @FiloViridae / @pdw1 / @bkg / @Ubahn / @Jeane123 / @Maron / @Aaron97 / @atgm
Did all the members stopped running or nobody's sharing training plans and/or results anymore ?

To keep you all informed about my own pratice ... after my spine neurosurgery last January I must say I still cant run because of neurophatic pains.
So I'm on an antiepileptic tretment to try to cure those pains.
But I begun swimming again, almost 2kms last WE.
I hope I will be able to hike again next September and run again on January ... will let you know.

I'm still here. In fact, I just started jogging again yesterday. I was doing really well during my 10K training, but I pushed too hard. I had my 10K practice time down to 80 minutes, but two weeks before the event, I tore something in my left upper hip area and for the past few months I have been barely able to lift my leg. So I am taking it slow. Plus with a 5 month break, I'm starting back at zero.

Ahh I still run, yet record next to nothing as I hate carrying my big ass phone lol And it's been near 100, so I have been picking the treadmill to run on most days. I live on the border of a really bad area, running at night is not THE best idea. Usually it's okay, but I'd rather be safe, then sorry lol

I know my man @Jeane123 has been absolutely killing it though!!

Hi mate and good to hear you are on the mend albeit slowly. I'm still here and still running. It sort of went quiet when the forum went a bit wobbly for a while before they changed it all.

But I'm currently training hard for the gasparilla races in Tampa in Feb 2018. So I'm still around here too when I can

Hey Mano,

I am still here. I hope your recovery is going well and your on the mend.

Well I recently completed my 2nd ever marathon in Richmond, Virginia a couple of weeks ago. I ran 3:02:12 which is a PB by 1:11 seconds. This marathon I actually took a bathroom break at roughly 3km in which I stopped for 35 seconds included in that time and I had to walk at the 41st km because EVERYTHING hurt!

Below are my rough splits per 5km segment

5km - 21:15 (included 35 second broom break)
5 - 10km - 21:08
10-15km - 20:59
15-20km - 20:55
20-25km - 20:59
25-30km - 21:01
30-35km - 21:45
35-40km - 23:28
40-42.25km - 10:45 -

I kind of fell apart at 35km but at least I know where I need to focus on in my training. This training cycle I didn't not run as much volume due to right hip flexor issues so I cut back on my easy runs and did not miss one tempo / interval workout or long run.

I maxed out at 103km in week 5 and didn't go above that in the 7 weeks that followed.

A key long run was in week 8 where I ran 20.50 km (1:42:30) at an easy pace (5:00 km) and I literally joined the start of a 10km race at that point and covered it in 40:17 (it was pre-planned). That run gave me confidence for running fast on tired legs which is crucial for my marathon success. So total was 30.50km for the day.

My plan now is rest and then on to 2018!

Good to see you here Jeane123

I really enjoy running, but when I got back into it, it was a hard slog from about 3years doing sod all. I would go out three nights a week, and do about 3km in stages, run for a bit, walk for a bit. I would run the same route, and each time try to run a little more and walk less, which was easy to keep track of because of the route I did. I now prefer to go out early morning, but that's just because life is too busy for evening runs.

Your fitness and stamina will soon pick up, and before you know it, you'll be pushing your run/walk markers. Soon enough you'll be doing bigger distances and running without slowing to a walk.

Definitely not a good idea to run everyday. My knees got wrecked. At one point, for about three months I ran 75k going everyday between Monday and Friday. I had to stop running for about half a year because of it though. At least I learnt that I don't really like cycling. I try to run every other day now, and strength train at the gym in between, mostly upper body.

There are a ton of 'couch to 5k' apps out there now. Some of my friends have used them and really got the running bug.

And yes, the "Couch to 5k" apps are a fantastic tool for those starting out. They provide structure and can really help people stay motivated. If you're looking to track your progress even more effectively, or if you want to take your fitness to the next level, you might want to check out sports software. It’s designed to help athletes of all levels monitor their workouts, set goals, and track their progress, whether you’re running, strength training, or working on other aspects of fitness. Having a digital tool to keep you on track can be a game-changer for consistency and motivation!
It's great that you've found a routine that works for you, even if it took a bit of time to get back into the swing of things! I think your approach to gradually increasing your run time while cutting back on walking is a solid one. It’s nice to see that you’ve figured out what works for you, whether it’s running in the mornings or alternating between running and strength training.

It’s definitely important to listen to your body, though, as you learned with your knee issues. Overdoing it can cause more harm than good, and it’s a good reminder that rest is just as important as the workouts themselves. Running every other day sounds like a good balance—mixing it up with some strength training to keep things fresh and avoid overloading any one part of your body.

And yes, I’ve heard a lot about the ‘Couch to 5k’ apps too! They’re a great way to ease into running and build up stamina gradually, especially for beginners. It’s always nice to have a structured program to follow, and it's inspiring to see people really get into it with the help of these apps.

Keep at it, and enjoy your runs! It's all about progress at your own pace!

Glad to see this thread getting bumped! It is motivating to see others' pace and running progress, and i enjoy reading other's health advice.

I absolutely love the meditative state that I am in when I run often: it allows me to release stress and restart my mind. Doing 5k at 12am when it is completely dark and peaceful brings me the greatest bliss.

This necro post is actually quite timely, as I’ve just started a Couch 2 5k. Went hard on my first run (broke 5k walking and running), but the next day I was in pieces. I guess I need to learn to walk before I jog before I run… :ROFLMAO:

I was running 30k a week for a few months and then developed a shin splint. Haven't gone for 6 weeks and it's starting to get me down. Walking, playing sport or going to the gym just doesn't cut it.
