So new post and easter upgrade :)

I was at the family and finally came to do some more casework and drilling. Latheing my own parts wont be possible unfortunately but im still on to some custom bezels.
Here some pictres of slimmed down lugs

Here one of the drilling for the new crown tube. It looks a little janky but the wood protets the case and it is an easy way to allign the case with the drill (drill is 2.65mm to tap an M3 x 0.35 threat)

Here i drill the lugs with 1,25mm. Same principle. We decided to drill each hole seperately and take extra care in measuring and alligning.

Case repolished and tapped tread for crown tube. You need a special tool for the tube, i can make extra photos if someone is interested

And here the finished case.

There is still the thing with the bezel to take care of. Also the fitting issue between raffles plexy and saphire cases we know of. I have a fitting crystal for my case but it does not lign up with the T21 measures... lucky me i guess..

Very, very cool - thanks for taking the time to share!! Definitely makes me confident that I will be able to do something similar… the way you have set up to hold the case is a great idea 👍🙏

@Action_Jensen Nice Job on the casework. That is how I have set up my vice as well I use steel flat bar or for support under the lugs instead of the wood.
My vintage drill press at my shop has seen better days and is very old and has developed a slight wobble and its to the point that Its no longer suitable for precision work of this scale. time to upgrade.

Tips for anyone who is going to drill their own holes.
Do it in steps. start with a .9 then move up to a 1. then a 1.1 and then 1.25
do not attempt to do it in one shot as you bit will most likely bind and break it off and trying to remove the broken bit out of the lug hole can be a real pain and damage the case
use lots of lube when drilling

I have yet to drill and tap for a new crown tube. I assume that is a gen part or Athena?

@369mafia, besides shaving/filing down the inner diameter of the bezel
1. do i have to install the bezel/crystal gasket, then the crystal and bezel?

IMG-1164.jpg

or

2. install the crystal and bezel without the gasket?

oh yes, i have a clark's t21 on the way....
@369mafia im asking the above with regards to install the clark's t21 ;)
the T21 should fit the case directly, no gasket required. you will need to mod the ID of the bezel from 30.3 to 30.6mm

i posted the difference a while back.
i bought 2 cases previously, both came with different crowns.
for this 3 case, i specifically requested for the thinner crown which is closer to gen ( i think)

This… actually looks interesting! I am left handed, wear my watch on my left wrist but could totally see myself making a “destro” 1016! What better watch to adapt to wear on the non-dominant arm than the quintessential tool watch… Also, it’s so eye-catching that anyone looking for rep “tells” would be completely thrown off guard 🤗
