Water will shurely be a problem for the matches.

oh yeah, water. didnt thought about that. thx :)

If you really want the perfect recess angle you have to grind the back of the sell a little bit. Otherwise the SEL will not touch the watch case on the upper side.

But i guess using the bending method explained above by @MoD2Franken you can achive the angle you are looking for.

so i will use tape on the upper side of the SEL, right? ;)
cause if grinding SEL, it will become more play.

Here is what i came up with:

Original SEL:

Plastic spacer and thinner springbars:

Plastic spacer and original 2mm springbars:

Bent SEL:

Grinded and bent SEL:

The last pic shows that you must also use thinner springbars for that to work. I guess that a similar result could be achieved by grinding the unbent sel. This is only if you want to achive the angle that pengo wants.

The cutouts were rough so there was room for error regarding the hole placement.

Perfect - this is how it works.

Only hint form my side - bent SEL often not always but often needs also thinner Springbars

Ok, I couldn't wait for my 1.8mm Springbars and wanted to tinker.

Before.

The mod. It's insulation tape that I layered 5 times and cut to size. Aka the iMod ;-)

It has a bit of bounce and play so allowed me to push the springbar without needing to grind / bend.

The result. Not bad. A bit better then before. I may try again with a couple of extra layers.

May be with more layers of the tape and the 1.8mm Springbars the result will be better.

What do you think?

New setup:
1.8mm springbars; 2 shortened and straightened-out metal staple clips squeezed into each entrance of SEL "tunnel" (in total 2x2=4 staples for each SEL/lug combo) to hold springbar in place inside SEL tunnel (eliminating any play); additional small staple metal pieces placed inside lug holes (then moved into upper half with plier) in order to eliminate play here once the springbar pops in. Place metal piece in upper half of lug holes so that springbar pops into the lower half of lug holes, therefore sitting lower and hence increased recession effect.

Very pleased with result so far. No play at all and even bigger recession due to larger staple thickness.

Alignment of SEL curvature to lug curvature also improved (though not perfect) compared to 2.0mm springbar + aluminum foil setup.

good job!
get rid of the aluminum foil, than u have great result(and play again of course(like on mine)).
to get rid of the play(on angle i want), im afraid we have to place something on the upper part of the SEL touching the case! any suggestions how to achieve that?

Hi pengo,

There is no more aluminum foil in the new setup. The staples are used as spacers.
But you are right, to reduce play to absolutely zero, we need to place something tiny between the watch case (between the lugs) and the upper curved rim of the SEL.

I just stare at my watch and wonder what is actually the 'thing' that makes the gen cyclops have no reflection.

I keep thinking about what to do to it to achieve the black hole effect.

Just a crazy idea...

Buy an anti reflective mobile phone screen protector. Cut out a square same size as the cyclops and stick it to the underside of the Crystal.

As your not taking out the crystal, should be an easy cheap experiment.

But as I'm typing, I'm thinking, it's the surface of the cyclops that's reflecting. So probably won't work!!!
