I purchased a Sillan 16610 case from Alibaba.

Oh you drilled the lugs

From inside or outside ?

I had a busted movement so I sent the watch for repair and service to Ado213 who finished assembling it and drilled the lug holes at the same time. They were drilled from the inside..

I’m still not brave enough with the limited rudimentary tools I have available to have a go myself.

sillan had an open 6.9 DW for 3135.

I have installed a WSO open 6.9 DW on my watch and would like to try sillan's DW.

Gonna order a pair soon. It looks better aligned than my lazy eye WSO datewheel.

Also looking at getting a little drill press to do lug hole drilling soon.

Agreed.

The WSO DW does not seem to be accurate.
It often shifts when setting the date.

I'm drilling holes the way I used to and it's not that difficult once you get used to it.

What is “the way you used to?” I’m struggling with a drill press going through in the inside of the lug. Dremel RPMs are way too high to make a dent either.

I was able to do from between the lugs with a tungsten bit and a dremel but I’m going to go drill press and vice for when I do more.

Use spring bars to line up the proper spot on the drill. Plenty of cutting oil on the bit and area definitely helps not burn out.

I feel like an idiot but how did you use spring bars to line up the drill? If anybody is willing to take us some measurements of their completed lug holes I think it’d help all of us to be able to punch the correct spot and drill from the outside of the lug as God intended 😂.

So here’s my plan and feel free to call me an idiot or whatever.

Put the spring bars between the lugs when you are lining the case up to be drilled. Case obviously is in a vice to hold secure and get the angle correct.

Lower the drill bit down onto the case (not on) and measure to make sure that you are drilling directly into the middle of the spring bars. This ensures that you are at the correct angle and position. Remove spring bars and then take it slow making sure to use plenty of cutting oil and drill your holes.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Jesus Christ. It’s Jason Bourne. This may actually be genius! I’m still holding out hope one of the lug hole elite will grace us peasants with some measurements that work on this case, but in the meantime I’m off to Amazon for some tungsten bits - cobalt ain’t shit for lug holes apparently. Got nothing to lose measuring with your method.

Hahaha! Let’s hope it works.

I’m going to get a press here soon and will give it a go on a case that I have to practice on. Need to get a few more cheap cases before I drill my nice one 🤣

Got the press. Cobalt bits barely get the job done but the issue is clearing the upper lug with the drill chuck - even angled it’ll only get me so far. Looking for long shank tungsten bits but ideally I’d go through the outside of the case like a sane person. Once I get the damn holes drilled, next case comes in I’m gonna punch a hole in the silicone case protector it comes in over my drilled case. Then I’ll have a pattern for the next case I drill.

That’s the exact issue I was having. I didn’t want to mess the case up from the chuck. Plus holding it in your hand is less than ideal.

I figure this method should hopefully eliminate the angle issues and marking up the case.

This was my first attempt with a cheap cast from AliExpress and using a dremel.

I’m hoping with drilling from the outside you don’t have to work your way up to 1.2mm, but it wouldn’t be the worst thing if you had to.

I ordered a wso bezel but it was not good so returned it. Don’t think there are many options out there other than gen.

I ended up replacing one of mine with an arf bezel..

The processing of this case is excellent.
It is very beautiful.

All down to @ado213 and the great work he did on the watch. He gave it a slight polish too.

Edit: I actually prefer the shape of the sillan (raf) sub over my arf sub.
After all, the technician's processing is amazing.

My own style of processing would not be able to finish as beautifully as this.

These cases work just fine and take gen parts. I had my watchmaker cut the oval indent into the back of the case to accept gen style movement mounting screws. Did the same on my BPSD.
Did this not have the cutout inside already?

I’ve been using case clamps. I’m not positive the original screws would work. I’d love to do it that way though. Never tried it.
I can't remember if I had the cutout on the side or if I just used the cutout near the stem. I just used Rolex style screws. You screw them in far enough to be under the lip where there is a cutout. You then rotate the movement so the screws stay under the lip until they are in the correct position. Insert crown and then unscrew the screws so that their heads push against the lip and lock the movement firmly in place.
