GMF crystal is much better. It has AR underneath the whole crystal. Much more clear than the Deep/VS crystals.

Does anyone know if the SH/VR movement in the newest GMF Ex II is the same as a standard VR3285 just with a different (bigger) date plate? And if so, could a dead GMF Ex II movement be replaced with a standard VR3285 as long as you swap the date plate?

This should work. I haven’t tried it, but I have built a hybrid DD3285 with a VR3285 date plate for an explorer 2 and it worked.

I was working on one of these in the meantime. If you mean the intermediate date wheel 3285-670 then you're probably SOL unless you find a gen one for cheap or the one from the SH3285/DD3285 (they look similar but not guaranteed that it fits. Gens are available on Ebay but would cost you more than a whole rep replacement movement). The VR3285 from Aliexpress are different movements that do not just have a different date plate.

Trusty parts can source the movement but it's more than half the price of the watch from a TD so probably not worth it.

The movement is an SH3285 (aka VR3285). Can you indicate exactly where the missing part you need goes? I can check my parts drawer to see if I have a spare.

Where did you buy the VR3285? If you bought on AliExpress, you might have been sold a VR3187 with "3235" engraved on it (this happened to me a few months ago). Can you post a picture of the new movement you bought (the dial side) and I'll be able to tell you if it's a true SH3285 or a VR3187 with "3285" engraved on it.

I bought it from a member here...i bought that movement as i need to take the date wheel gear to repair the VR3285 of the GMF but the wheels was different, doesn't fit...
I bought the GMF EXII head only not worwing (watchsmith found some parts missing from movement)
After that bought brand new VR3285 to get the missing parts (but didnt work)
After that i bought brand new bracelet that was missing too...
all sale from same member here......still doesnt work..
And the person working on it is one of the best watchsmith here.

That’s a vr3187 with “3285” engraved on it. It’s super confusing. I’m sorry this happened to you. If you post exactly which parts you are missing (pictures) I can probably help you — I have a true vr/sh3285 broken down for spare parts in my parts drawer.
