What's the big deal about Panerai? Why do people like them?

IMO - the lure of the Pam is that it evokes warm comfortable childhood memories. Memories and warm-fuzzies of a time long since past when we, as simple pre-schoolers, used to draw watches and clocks that look EXACTLY like Pams.

I love Panerai watches, and I think the PAM088 model and style is also my love.I saw many watches website for replica Panerai replica watches. And I think I will study all of them to decide which website to order from. But I think it will be www.bwo888.com for most possibility,my friend bought one panerai replica watch from them last month, and he know I love penerai watch too,so he showed to me,I saw it and think it is wonderful.I have a original one for some years, but for the bad economy situation,I think I will try a replica ond this time,I think it may also ok for me now.
This watch is nice:

I thought I'd be more of a dress watch guy, hence the name -- but after getting into Pams I just really like the way they wear. 44mm seems perfect for me, when I thought it would be huge before. 47mm -- I am a bit leery -- but I'd like to try it.

When I first got into watches other then Rolex, Panerai was def one of the tops on my list to have but I could never justify the price to benefit ratio. Of course when I got into Replica watches that changed and now I have one. Its actually been my main watch the past couple of weeks. However, I also dont understand how some people have soo many of them since they are soo similar. But thats what makes us as humans interesting. :)

By the way Im one of those people who actually prefers to go against most celebrities, Guess Im more of the Forbes list type of guy ;)

For me, it is the clean, simplistic lines of Panerai.

Plus, I like having something that most do not know of... I mean, you seem them notice and possibly stare, but 90% have no idea of what I am wearing.

I agree completely. I have worn my 111h as my daily since I got it. People ask me what kind it is and when I tell them they are like "Okay?" They are clueless. One guy even asked me if he could get one at Wal-Mart. I just laughed, and said I would doubt it. :)

Some people actually rely on watches to indicate what time it is. Hey, I know that seems odd, but stay with me here.

Many of the Panerai dials appeal to me because they're not busy. Refer to my avatar for a sterile 47mm cased example (I understand it's a DSN dial, BTW.) I thought it would be too big for my taste, and find that even though it pretty well covers my wrist, I love it.

it seems the majority are the same, come looking for one brand and end up finding others.
i came looking for an omega PO,i didnt care about panerai but the more ive seen, the more ive been drawn towards them so ive just ordered one from robert.a 212 flyback on rubber.i cant say im mad for them but once its here, then ill know.
i only started getting decent reps a few weeks ago, until then it was all very low end stuff as you can see from the omegas in the bottom tray(pic).
i dont know if the pams will ever take over from the omegas but there is something about them thats got my attention.

I first asked what's the deal with Pams, and then I ended up getting two of them.

I then asked, what's the deal with B&R's, and then I ended up getting two of those.

Don't ask "What's the deal with so and so watch" othewise you'll end up with them on your wrist.

Btw, what's the deal with ... ... ... aw sht, nevrmind.....

Andy, minus the chronos on some of your watches we seem to have very similar tastes overall. Is your black PO in the top picture an ultimate edition and the one in the bottom a PO "lite" model?

Im asking because Ive been wanting to see the 2 side by side, thanks!

its understated elegance at its finest

Nothing understated about a watch so big that it has to be noticed.

I didnt know these watches existed a week ago and now i cant stop seeing them. Growing on me in a big way but they are looking more and more like Porsche's....Nice at first but then you realize everyone's got one. Also, it seems people who own this watch REALLY KNOW this watch, more so then other brands. Making it tough to pass off. Am i right in this?..I live in a tough market for dodgy watches. Hong Kong.

For me, it the large.clean dials. The basic look of a Panarai hasn't changed in 60 years .... They are a classic, timeless design. Masculine, simple, elegant .... and, oh yes ... THE LUME ! ! (I got one on the way . A black dial automatic Luminor with the date at 3'oclock .. .. .. Can't wait to slap that bad boy on my wrist! ! !) .....

I'm into them now too, I discovered them here, a Pam 088 ended up being my 1st Rep. I have an Omega SeaMaster Chrono, but I think my next purchase with be another Pam.
The 88 I have came with a steel bracelet, but I decided to change it after a few months. Here's a shot of the Carbon strap I got for it from Panatime. I find I can beat this pretty hard and strap still looks brand new.

This is an interesting thread. I guess I'm a little different. I've heard of Pams for about 5 years. First heard of them when my AD that I bought some gen rolexes and breitlings from just picked up the line. They called and told me to come down to take a look at them. I went down and they only had like 5 watches left. At that time I really didn't understand them. Maybe it's because I've never heard of them before. Keep in mind that I'm a brand name whore! LOL! My gen SS daytona just came in so play funds was a little short. From that day on though whenever I went in to the AD, I was always drawn to the Pams. Never bought a gen but those were the first I would look at.

Then I discovered the whole rep world. Had a bunch of friends that would show me their cheap reps that they had. Wasn't impressed. Then I seen a guy I was doing business with wearing a Pam. I asked him about it cause I totally noticed it. He said it was fake. I was like yeah right (This guy has lots of money!). Looked at it and was totally hooked. The thing felt really good especially compared to those fake rolexes my friends had. Being that the motor is based off what we buy in the reps. Why not go that route. The bug bit me from that point on...
