In all seriousness, it is because they are so ungainly large.

That being said, I am going to order on of the 40mm MMs' with GMT next month and see how I like it (the MMs' are the only ones that come in 40mm and have a GMT movement). However, I consider 40mm to be a large watch;it may turn out that it is too large for me to bond to.

I think it's appeal is its heritage to the Italian military (navy?). It's large size - what I call wrist presence.

Panerai is a brand you actually have to wear to understand. My experience was pretty similar to the poster's. now I own several gens and reps! I am a Pam addict.

Panerai has simple but unique design. you can not mix up panerai with other brand. the watch is big, manly, eyecatcher......

I was in the same boat when I first got into the rep game. I never saw what the big deal was. They seemed to simple for my liking but lo and behold I got bitten by the bug. A PAM seed was planted in my head and slowly sprouted and now I'm fully addicted to them. I can't explain it. I guess no one really can. Good luck to everyone who doesn't own one, because it will be short lived.

Taste is subjective. I actually disagree on all 3 that you mentioned. The only one I would consider above Panerai aesthetically is ap. Again, that's my preference, and yours is clearly divergent - it's a good thing as it gives us more choices.

Why like Panerai? It's hefty and masculine, has distinctive designs, strong lume, and I can change straps to change the look.
