What AP Franken(s) do you have in the works?!

funny thing - i woke up this morning and lolked at the watch and thought - thats neither fish nor fowl - so i respired my self in doing a make over.

the dial does not fit good to the look and glass is scratched but it works for now until i get a gen dial for replacement.

i am more satisfied with the look now

Not bad, buddy. But I’d hide the polished parts during the sandblasting process to give a little shine as an AP should be

What you're seeing is daylight reflecting on the dial. Daylight is cold in colour therefore it gives a blue-ish tint to anything it hits. The dial is pitch black.

Which DW is that?

Stock DW in Concord chrono LWO283 circa 1980s.
Seems to align respectably with most digits from D series beast... I’ve heard of other ETA influences in these early series, but don’t know if this would have been dictated by JLC or AP.

Thanks for the answer. It has a nice style font that is not far off from 90s AP in some respects. The side-by-side shows that AP only highlighted the serifs a bit.

And while we are on this topic, and given your prodigious experience, do you think there is an accurate looking datewheel if one wants to build a 26237 franken? I’m asking because the date font used seems to be a throwback to the vintage one, but with some tweaks in font thickness and spacing. You likely have a lot more knowledge than me in this aspect.

The gen 26237 DW has a lot thicker numerals and certain numerals ("8" for sure) are narrower. I cannot point to an convenient SKU from an online parts vendor of a DW that matches it. It seems unique and one-off, like what AP does sometimes with other parts on different models. After all, AP do make parts (crowns, pushers, screws, etc.) specifically for one model and no other, and I cannot see why they would not want to do that for a DW. They have the money and design team to do it. A helpful hint, though. What I have noticed, like JugenK, is that the older LWO 283 movements sometimes have useful DWs for matching older AP fonts. It is a matter, unfortunately, of hit or miss. It helps if you have pulled out 20 to 30 of these older LWO 283 DWs to replace with other aftermarket options, like Omega or Mikey or Edge, etc. over the years and kept the older stock DWs. Then you can go through the collection and perhaps upcycle. I went through an assortment of these older DWs a few months ago, and found some useful ones for my purposes. You probably have a massive assortment of these too. I would just advise looking through them for something useful.

The narrowness and boldness of the 26237 DW font makes me think that Mikey’s new “Old Skool” DW with a bolder and narrower font will give you a similar feel, but doing the side by side is bound to cause disappointment.

I should clarify— in other respects this seems to be a nice looking classic font DW... but it would be hard for it to replicate the classic font and the 26237 font at the same time, the 26237 font from what I have seen has a lot of interesting quirks to it.
