Fine gentlemen, can I ask a question? I found a dial on eBay without markers, for cheap. The guy listed it as 28.5mm (which is the correct size for a ref. 5402). However upon receiving the dial, it sits at 27.7-27.8mm. There is a return policy, but I'd like to see what reference this may be for. My plan was to transplant the markers from a 15202 and AP logo from a 14790 dial to make a good 5402 dial.
I got curious and tried it with my cal. 2123 date disc. It fits perfectly.
So then, of course, I had to try it in the 14790 case. The 14790 dial is 26.5mm, so this is about 1.2mm bigger, but let's see.
The final pic shows that the "SWISS MADE" at 6 o clock is cut off. The dial is too big, but smaller than the 5402.
My genuine question is, what reference is this for? Is there a vintage size between the 39mm and 36mm Royal Oak?
The crystal on the XF 15202 measures 28.3mm
The genuine dial of the 5402 measures 28.5mm
I have pictures of both of these.
Edit:
This dial: 27.8mm
36mm 14790 dial: 26.5mm
35mm 4100 dial: 25.7mm
39mm 5402 series D dial: 28.5mm
I think it is possible this is a Series C dial of the 5402, gray variant. If you look at the indices printing, and where "SWISS MADE" sits, as well as the tapisserie pattern, it all seems to line up. However I am not certain AT ALL. @slaughterer62
