nor am I saying he's lying about what the dials cost.
They cost whatever he charges for them so no, he's not lying, it just so happens that IMHO that is way too much as similar dials of equal or better quality can be bought for way less. As I said however, that is my personal opinion (which no one has produced a valid argument against mind you) and not the issue here.

If people are stupid enough to pay way too much for an average product that's their problem. My problem begins when they don't get the product they overpaid for.

avoiding paying too much goes for things others than watches and watch parts too. I spend all my time that i set aside for shopping for anything to hunting for good deals. sometimes it’s not even about the money, it’s like a game. money that is saved can go towards things you really want that tend to be expensive and not discounted much

Are there any “trusted” (RWI approved) dial makers? Maybe AMF but I’ve never seen them produce really custom dials, just “gen-like” dials.

Does Raffles do truly custom dials, though?

I told Raffles to become approved here, he’d have many good customers, but I guess he’s just not interested
Unfortunately when sellers see members reject watches due to a slightly misaligned rehaut or a ever so slightly crooked marker, becoming a seller here can often times be more of a hassle for them than anything else… it’s a real shame

Popup sell dials but they don't make the,. Then again, I have seen nothing to lead me to believe Oaocam does either and once again, no one has challenged that assertion in a meaningful way. A couple of of our modders have a pad printer to make basic dials with.

Having spent a shit ton of money on creating the best possible superfranken watches just so I can make a truly informed decision about whether or not I like a watch enough to spend even more money on the gen, I can say with absolutely no hesitation there is ZERO value (for me anyway) in modding a replica watch with anything other than gen parts. I realise there are several very experienced collectors who firmly believe that is even crazier. At the end of the day, a rep watch modded with an Oascom or any other aftermarket dial is still a complete rep. All you have done is make a watch with a very specific target audition (rep collectors) even more niche (subset of previous target audience but requiring deeper pockets). Belkin is probably the only current exception but then again, I have come to the conclusion the only gen Panerai models worth buying gen are those that can't be, or at least have never been, replicated. Having said all that, now that I simply never wear reps anymore, majority of my few remaining superfrankens are about to be liquidated to fund the last gen I want in my watch box so I guess Xmas will come for several collectors :ROFLMAO:

A rep modded with gen parts is still a rep IMO.

I actually don't know what this guy charges for custom dials. I'm afraid to look now.

On the contrary, If you remember, it was not uncommon to buy aftermarket dials for your gen "vintage" Datejust or DayDate and have it installed to match your current liking.
Malachite dials were especially popular.

I think my next custom dial project needs to be "Oascom 202x-2024" dials.

Very much agreed. I just don't understand why you'd want to spend that kind of money on a fake.

When I was a kid, my next-door neighbor built a Jag E Type from the ground up - on a ford chassis IIRC.

He was utterly convinced it was real. I never understood it.

Edit: I actually only understand ONE reason, and that is fraud - something that we would never do. Right?
