@mnkoshka would you happen to be making another one at the same time? Might as well since you are at it…I don’t think I have enuf…
The Viet/China cases are pretty shit.Same thoughts I had as well. The big triangle is nice. Just not as nice.
I wish the viet cases were closer to gen (I've heard the lug shape is pretty far off) I kinda wanna go full franken
Unsure of the case construction of the viet case. I’ve been trying to find one worth buying for a while. Also found that my rotor doesnt spin at all with the movement in the Vietnamese case. I had a very thin spacer ring that allows for genuine dial to sit in the aftermarket case (the AM dial is a tiny bit larger so it sits well) - the genuine dial is half a mm too small.
I suspect this is the reason, but its a bit annoying as I have to rely on hand winding the watch.
If anyone has any good suggestions would greatly appreciate them!
Attached a pic of my watch below. I also have a Uncle Seiko flat link 20mm bracelet which I quite enjoy but the case has dicky lugs as you will be aware of.
Thanks !!!Little update on the hrudoland case project.
Managed to machine an angle on the back barrel ( caseback seat ) to more resemble the Gen.. I’ll probably go again and get it much closer just need to make some more tooling.
Machined the bezel reducing the bezel teeth thickness to more resemble a 165.024 but this is experimental ill probable leave slightly more tooth height with the final case. Brushed Finish not completed yet.
I had to machine a movement retainer to hold the ETA 2824. Unfortunately the hrudoland case doesn’t come with a tab groove as the original movement is an NH35 with plastic holder. I machined the retainer to also snap fit an omega antimagnetic cover, the centre nipple on the cover comes into enough deflective contact with the caseback once tightened down and provides the perfect pressure on the retainer ring to secure the movement.
I will also increase the gasket groove to take a nice thick gasket and add a Gen omega crown and tube. Machined the caseback graphics off make it blank sterile.
Going to try and use the speedmaster 57 sapphire domed crystal ( 31mm ) but need to check internal dome height for hand clearance and see if the overall dome height looks good enough with the case.
Had to relume the hands and slightly blasted the hands to get a custom satin finish look.
This has been a great budget build under $500 and has a slight fantasy NOS look. Lume is pretty super bright also
This is awesome. Always in awe at the people who bring the machining aspects inLittle update on the hrudoland case project.

I’m thinking of building one of these using the forthcoming updated Helson Sharkmaster 300 with Miyota as a base. What Omega crown should I order?Little update on the hrudoland case project.

It’s just raffles dial, I much prefer the small triangle dial but unfortunately raffles doesn’t sell a ‘no date’ version@mnkoshka what dial is that
Not sure what crown & tube the sharkmaster uses. The size will depend on what omega part will potentially fit. Most newer omega crowns use an internal crown tube thread. Maybe aftermarket ( non gen spec ) options that could workI’m thinking of building one of these using the forthcoming updated Helson Sharkmaster 300 with Miyota as a base. Oh man. I would be totally guessingNot sure what crown & tube the sharkmaster uses. The size will depend on what omega part will potentially fit. Most newer omega crowns use an internal crown tube thread. Maybe aftermarket ( non gen spec ) options that could work
Yeah I will have to find someone to help machine the caseback - thats the only option I think.Unsure of the case construction of the viet case. I’ve been trying to find one worth buying for a while.
If the dial seats against the crystals internal compression ring (polished rehaut ) the best option would be machine a new compression ring with a slightly more acute aperture angle therefore reducing the rings ID but maintaining its original height. This of course is considering that the crystal and case is Gen spec construction.
Or machine the internal of the case back for more room.
You're not that bright
You don't need to machine the caseback. The laser etching can be sanded away and will leave a brushed finish. Just sand it on a flat surface.Yeah I will have to find someone to help machine the caseback - thats the only option I think.
Just weird why they didnt make it gen spec lol. Its not hard surely to measure a genuine dial?
I need access to a lathe, but I'm in a smaller city in Australia that doesn't have much of this specialty equipment.
