My first build after modding for about a year. I started my watch collecting with gen Omegas 15 years ago and missed out on the Watchcos and this reference has been a bit of a grail watch for me. I wanted an gently aged Seamaster 165.024 build. I was excited about some things being done with the Hruodland watch, so I jumped in with two feet. Ali Hruodland donor watch, sterilized the caseback, tumbled case in metal shavings and aquarium gravel. I didn’t like the bezel numbers and long hash marks being beige, so I popped out the mineral crystal and teased the bezel insert off carefully (it’s thin glass – ask me how I know (ended up having to buy two watches – haha)), scraped off the beige paint that was over the lume (but I didn’t have to re-lume afterwards; the paint scratched off pretty well). I gave Raffles Time hands and a Raffles dial a soft patina with some time in a hot oven. Switched out the NH35 movement for a Seagull ST2130 movement, switched out 3 position jumper to a no date ETA jumper (and all the other superfluous pieces) to remove date function. I used a plastic 2824 movement ring from Ali to fashion a spacer that I modified so I could use the existing NH35 movement holder. A lot of trial and error there! Ebay to the rescue for a gen Omega crown and new tube (looks like a screw down crown but it’s a push-in waterproof crown). UncleStraps for a period correct Tropic strap (although I would request smaller diameter spring bars instead of fat bars from them unless you are going to drill the case’s holes out). I decided to stay with the domed mineral crystal (at some point I just had to say enough was enough, but maybe one day, along with a historically accurate white seconds hand (I kind of like all the hands to match anyway)). I am really liking this timepiece. Very comfortable especially with the tropic strap and the Seagull is keeping really good time (+5 seconds a day). I don’t plan on diving with it but it’s a great classic beater. Shout out to the RWI community which has been very helpful (and understanding of my naïveté)!

Thanks, it became a bit of an obsession at one point and it was a learning experience. I'm all ears about painting the second hand. ! I looked briefly into it but wasn't sure what would be the best way to paint it (what type of paint, spray/brush/apply with oiler). Assuming there's no way around re-luming. Come on, I need something to do during the holidays :p

I've been tempted by this watch for a long time but I can't find a "good" dial. most do not have the "serifs" at the end of the numbers and often the mention is seanaster and not seamaster. the comparison with a genuine dial is unforgiving.
Does anyone know of a store with a credible dial that doesn't cost the price of a real one?

My Build:
Hruodland Case & Bezel
Dial and hands - Raffles Dials
Omega push-in crown - EBay
PT5000 (2824) movement - AliX
Tube & 2804 crown spring (to elim ghost date) - Cousins
Strap - AliX

Still need to sand off the Hruodland caseback, but pleased how it turned out.

Hey stumbled on this thread as I had planned this same conversion of the Hruodland having seen how good the shape case was. i’m wondering why you and others didn’t just use the NH35 in it, is it just the ghost date? My plan was to just accept ghost date or use NH38 so i could re-use the hands (maybe with some ageing) and either painting or using a white seconds hand. The dial i plan to age the Raffles big triangle white one.

Only question is the crown - ideally would like a screw in for the existing tube. Anyone got an idea for what i’d need?

Search earlier in the thread. It’s an Omega push in crown as has been described. You’ll have to remove the existing tube and replace with appropriately sized tube for the new crown.
ok thanks. Sorry i’m a novice at the mod game - sounds like the part that goes in the case is 2.5mm?

Separately did you use the raffles dial with yellow lume or white as a starting base before you aged it? It’s turned out great!

Yes to 2.5mm. I used white and then aged in the oven gradually to slightly yellow/brown. There are videos on YouTube on aging dials and hands.

Thanks for the tips …time to get to work!
I used this. It's not screw down either, my watchmaker put in a crown tube to replace the one that came on the case as it was too small. Watch passed a 50m pressure test with it after being greased.
It's not exactly the same dimensions, but it's close enough for a cheap build.
Hi - quick q re the crown tube on the Hruodland - was it a friction fit that needs pushing out?

Way overpriced and the lugs are awful.
Bezel insert is just plastic too apparently.

He had a massive sale on those not long back. If you PM him he will knock at least £100 off those kits.

I hope you didn't pay full price.
I haven't purchased yet. Looking for something a little more then the 250$ ones you could buy from td.

I unfortunately do not possess the modding skills that the wizards in this thread do lol

I asked Trusty and he could source a 300 cartel
Haven’t done it yet as I don’t have much time on the bench

You can also ask @369mafia to build you one
