VSF Clarification on Submariner Case Kit and Serial Number

One of the clearest tells for an RXF comes from the serial numbers. So far, I have seen:

3x F77S7878
3x D55P5858
2x E66R6868
1x A11L1818

Letters occupy the first and fourth places. So far they have been 11 to 13 letters apart in the alphabet.

With the numbers, only one is variable and this occupies the second, third, fifth, and seventh places. So far, it looks like the variable number equates to the first letter + 1 ie. F is the 6th letter of the alphabet so the variable number is 6+1=7. The exception so far is the A which retains the variable number as 1.

The sixth and eight places are always an 8.

I have an RXF, I can guarantee that side by side with a VSF it is indistinguishable.
You can tell the difference simply by opening the back of the watch and looking at the movement.

Can someone please tell me how I can confirm if this is an rxf movement and not a VS3135 in the VSF. I've attached photos

Its a v3135 movement but i would stick to the serial numbers found posted on this thread or the ones from other vsf models like smurf, bluesy or tome tone) because v6f also uses the v3135 movement.

Rxf uses a2824, so my guess that would probably be a v6f

No this is not like my RXF, this movement is a 3135.

Just received this QC from TD Steve. It is supposed to be a VSF Hulk, but the serial does not look like a VSF. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks everyone, such a great community of support. I've contacted Puretime and they asked for movement photos and said they are looking into the issue with the factory. Only thing I'm disappointed is the bezel in comparison with my hulk looks shit. The markers are not bright enough and sometimes disappear into the black in low light. Guess this is because this case doesn't use the clean factory bezel like VSF.

According to Andrew, the serial number issue only applies to VSF 116610 LN/LV. Your QC pic is not a Hulk, it's a 126610.

Please note that both VSF and V6F did not know of this incident nor are they directly involved in it. They have only found out about this recently when they received some complaints, which has led to this announcement.

**Please take note! This incident is only for the 116610LN and 116610LV, 40mm Submariners.

I'm not clear on whether or not you actually have the watch yet but it you do end up with it there's a pretty simple paint mod fix for the insert markers. You can check it out in the link below if interested.

A very nice product indeed, but I read somewhere that it doesn't last long as you don't turn the bezel with greasy fingers.

It's acrylic paint which is water resistant so it's inherently pretty durable. I have reps I've done this mod on two years ago that still look great. But I also don't ever get my watches wet or dirty or use the bezels as a fidget spinner. How long it lasts is largely dependent on how it's handled and treated.

Both of these were done in 2019

So I've been told by Puretime to return the watch in exchange for a new one. They said the factory installed the incorrect rehaut on my watch. KJ2020 thanks for the paint mod info. I might try this once I get my new watch

Is this really what they said? If so, then this bombshell means that it's no longer just important to scrutinize QC to check that your rehaut is properly attached, but now you must also check that the CORRECT REHAUT HAS BEEN INSTALLED. Damn, these rehaut issues get more complicated by the day.

In the meantime, I expect Puretime will fix it by installing a new rehaut - using the rehaut attachment tool, of course:

So I've been told by Puretime ..the factory installed the incorrect rehaut on my watch.

I hate it when that happens.. but I have heard of it before - watchmaker just about to install rehaut, slips on a banana skin dropped by a passing colleague, lands in a factory across town, bangs into another watchmaker making the same model of sub, parts flying up in the air.. in all this confusion the rehauts get mixed up. Ultimately, there will be someone out there with a VSF rehaut in their ZF or ARF or whatever, so we'll need to keep an eye out for that thread..

You received a cheaper watch than you paid for. If I were you I’d send it back and get the correct one. Although I was just reading in another thread that Puretime currently can’t get hold of any VSF Subs. So you might be looking at a lengthy delay before you receive the replacement. The alternative is to keep the RXF, do the paint mod, and get an agreement on a discount on your next purchase.
