that thinner might not be the right one. Testors has a line of paints called "Metallizer" as well and i think they are different than the regular enamels. just get the thinner for that brands regular enamel paints.

Thanks, when I search thinner that's all they offer so I've emailed the to see if it's compatible. I definitely won't be removing my pearl from my new bk noob dssd so may leave that whole triangle as is if I can't get paint in!

removing the pearl is a must for getting a clean finish in the triangle, otherwise surface tension will make the paint cling up around the pearl surround. just use the soldering iron method to remove and 2 part epoxy to reattach.

Ok will do, shop comeback with this proposal, they are permanent and waterproof when dry, how do they look?

Hi, so my paints have arrived and I'm a bit nervous removing the pearl:-
1) Is the pearl glass
2) can i use the soldering iron on full heat (mines gas) or should i increase as i go
3) what am i heating up, is it glued on
4) when i replace can i use super glue, if not what type of epoxy am i using

Sorry for all the questions, i dont want to botch my new awesome DSSD.

Did mine, didn't take photos as was too nervous lol. Anyway just scraped off and the indentations were a bit shallow so most came off, I've since removed all with thinners and replaced pearl. Think I'll live with it for now.

Update folks I've just used a sharpie metalic silver pen, the colour is pretty accurate and changes depending on angle.

I'm waiting until I scratch off, this is the tough part. The paint should be dry very quick but I may wait overnight!

Definitely interested to see how the sharpie mod turns out. Seems much easier than using paint. I've been wanting to do the PP mod but I'm too nervous that I'll mess it up. Crossing my fingers for you that it all scrapes off!

I've used the Japanese platinum paint markers and wile looks OK, its too silver. The PPP mod is bit better.

The PPP mod didn't work for me, it all scratched out. Part way through this and must admit it's a lot easier and the colour IMHO is bang on, dark when looked at direct and silvery on an angle. Part way through scratching after 1 hour drying (so much for waiting), re applied a few as you can see but I'm VERY happy with the way it's proceeding!

The pen on Amazon looked very silvery but in reality it's quite dark.

Very happy with this however the silver paint has highlighted the imperfections of the poor white under surface. If you have a flat surface to begin with think you'd be very happy with the outcome.
