Well, these Ali Moonswatches are different. Movements are loose and can’t set the time in the metal case.
What a pain in the ass this is.
I’d rather build a SEIKO watch. But I already did 10 of those. So no, I am not a noob.
you can certainly set the time- do you have the stem properly set into the metal crown?

yes- the movement is loose in these cases- there are several remedies to that issue in this thread including double sided 3M tape (which I use and is great).

Happy to help in any way I can.

I don't know man, I have one left (in transport), that is the one that was recommended.
If that is going south, I am gonna reuse the case for future SEIKO VK63 mod.

I mean, this is the situation right now:

you do not need to disassemble the movement from the face and hands- is that the movement that came with the swatch or is that another PE50?

I did not disassemble the movement. I got angry and demolished both watches. It is scrap now. ;-)

As a fellow Seiko modder- I understand that we are both used to easy plug and play - this is not quite as elegant as a NamokiMods build- but its pretty neat.

you really just have to:

-open the swatch caseback.

pull the stem by depressing the lever on the movement.

the face and movement will come out as a unit- .

Some ali cases also have a metal dial ring- some don't. its a nice thing to have but not necessary. If you do see the ring in the swatch case- remove it and put it in the metal case.

place the face/movement into the metal case- check to see if the hands are still on once you do this!!

Put the stem in to steady the movement- don't worry about changing the crown or trying to set the hands yet.

Get some thick 3M double sided tape ( ill send a pic of what I use when I get home). cut TINY little slivers and put two or three way down into the metal case between the movement and the case to lie at 9 12 and 6 OClock so they doesn't interfere with the caseback threads. Some guys also use a plastic movement ring and just cut/trim/shave to size.

Remove the plastic crown and place the metal case crown - then cut/adjust the stem to size as I'm sure you do with the Seikos.

don't forget the Loctite for the crown!!

I have made six of these and they all are doing great- including mixing and matching the subdial hands from different moonswatches.

If you can get good results with Seikos- you will be able to do this.

I did what you're saying. But I think this is not made for me. I didn't cut the stem, because it was long enough. I do this to my SEIKO watches, because those are always way too long.

I tried and failed with this Chinese crap. I am happy it is working for everyone else.
Some say you need 3M tape, some say it is a straight swap.
Apparently I got two left hands as they say.

I would thank you for making this write-up, it might help others out.

Ok. I picked up my other watch from the postal office. This one was from DH-gate.
Still the same issue, I thought.
I now did remove the rubber gasket and gave the case back an extra firm twist:

Done! So, it was a bit of a struggle for me. Since it is new to me ofcourse.

Again, thanks to Pinion Minion for the write-up!

So.... I'm going to go all out on this one, I made this today in a pagani case, I thought it would look like my grail, a white gold speedy, but I can help but think it resembles the Alaska so...... Another cheapie incoming to rob the hands from and paint them black and red accordingly.

I also have a bit more work to do to the dial. The dial was huge, I had to file a full 4mm off it which was a slow and tedious process but I got there in the end. I have to paint out the hour markers and do a little bit of a touch up on the 3 o'clock subdial.

Yes I know it's not straight! It's just set in to make sure it fits.

More updates to follow.

Many moons ago I bought the worst rep ever built! I'll see if I can find the link. It had one thing going for it, the dial! It's good and the closest I've seen to the real thing, it even has a nice bit of depth on the subdials. But it's huge! Like way too big, 4mm too big. I trimmed as much off as I could with really sharp tin snips. I'd advise not doing this if your snips aren't super sharp as you'll likely bend or snap the dial. Then I filed the rest down, it took hours as I didn't want to damage the dial. It's a really tight fit but it fits.

My one little tip that I haven't given in the thread here is to stick the dial to the movement, make sure it's well stuck, then you can always use the movement holder that comes in the pagani, by it's design it fits tight inside the case and sits against the back of the dial, in doing so it holds everything in the case, tight! It doesn't have to be up against the movement it just has to hold everything in place.

Ps. Just checked and the link is dead. I'll have to see if I can find more.

That's been done many times. It's well documented in this thread.
Well...
This was the most fun i have ever had in this watch hobby...
Like it was described here, it was the easiest "plug and play" ever..
Took only 20 minutes.
No extra parts needed to buy, no modding, just a straight switch.
Even was able to use the Pagany crown

the only issue with the easy swap is that the sub dials don't function as gen. Except if you foind the perfect swatch rep?

Yeah it gets more and more involved, each time you achieve something you want to do it better. Across all the modding threads the only thing I've not seen attempted yet is a ceramic case..... Anyone up for giving it a go?
