a few things.

For the lume, I left the diluted water color layer and cooked it in the oven 220C 15 mins. It gave the uneven texture and burnt look

also I dunked the dial in ice water to do a thermal shock to amplify the flaking of water color. This is where I messed up after...I put it back in oven wet, i should have let it cooled outside.

Indeed the mat lacquer drop, but several layers with an hour of drying betwen

I really liked this dial as soon as I saw it, except for the lume color.

I am not very good yet at the models history 😅 so it's really what I feel looks right that I buy

It was produced from 1963 through 1989 so you can pretty much do whatever you want and it will match some obscure reference as someone pointed out.

the updated print is more accurate and closer to mark 2s.

gen mark 2s were likely using the same print as gilt dials.

matte dial mark 2

gilt dial mark 6

i think we have a winner here for a budget build!

I keep working on this case. Refinished the top of the lugs on a lathe to make it seem more used, not the crisp brushing the Raffles case comes with. Also gave it another heavy polish after a run in the tumbler to give it those rounded polished dings look on the sides and to round off the edges some more, both top and bottom. I don't think I'll ever be finished though lol

If you are looking for drill bits. try these. They cut like butter.

Ive tried those other colour coded ones on ali express but they are not made for steel , they break way to easy. These work great and are long enough to get the second lug from the inside if you are drilling through

Wow - yes, good catch! The E in Rolex has the correct MKII diagonal serifs, and the Oyster Perpetual and Explorer font is much more correct!

(old left)

I've got the one on the left - the problem with it is the lume 3,6 and 9 shapes are those of the earlier Super Precision - look at the tails on the 6 and the 9 particularly; rounded ends instead of sharp cut-offs. The spacing of the ROLEX test and crown from the 12 indices is also much more accurate.
I wish Raffles would do a un-coloured white) of the dial on the right as then it really would be very close to the matte service dial.

guys. I am now looking at the final assembly and I just saw that the 580 endlinks don't fit at all. I want to put a Raffles Rivet bracelet

Do you know what I need? or should I tinker the 580

And although Ken is a great guy I had to have two sets off him as both were slightly manufacturing damaged. They looked like some sort of cyborg mouse had had a nibble out of them.
Ken replaced them without quibble but just saying...

Wow, has the Raffles dial upgraded its quality? This is really astonishing. The 12 o'clock triangle index and fonts have become much more accurate and beautiful. Raffles is always trying. It's a really good seller.

Guys, which grit sandpaper would be needed to carve or grind the metal case? Is a rotating machine with a motor absolutely necessary?
Please let me know about the process of shaping the case and the tools needed.

I used 600 grit but 400 would probably be more accurate. I just wanted a faded look to the brushing. Some people use a scotch brite pad as well.

As for the tools needed, you can use a drill and some way to fasten the case to it. Getting a consistent grind freehand without rotation would probably be hard. You can buy one of these for a drill as well.

some use hand files but it's super long and painful. Plus for good results you need good files like Vallorbe

I use a dremel and the compatible workstation. If you take Dremel take the 42xx you will need the variable speed.
The workstation is a must. for lug drill and also to hold the tool for shaping

then personally I use 120 grit sanding drums for rough shaping and quickly move to 200-400 for fine shaping. Some prefer to do 400 directly. It's longer but you reduce the risk of having "shadows" due to uneven sanding.

You still need hand files for the CG insides though...
