looks identical to the ruby case. I assume there are only so many factories that make them and then these resellers source from them and sell to us.How do you think it compares to Raffles cases?
these are pics I got from bivintage

Let us know how it goes. After lurking for quite some time. I've purchased parts for my first build! Thank you everyone here, for the wealth of information. I will do some build updates as parts come in and document what I am doing for the next person. I have enjoyed seeing others do the same.
Parts
Raffles:
Acrylic crystal case
20mm rivet style oyster
Silver hands with white lume
Explorer dial with super white lume
Ali Express -
NH35 Movement
Sub dial, black with white lume
Silver hands with white lume - identical to those from raffles.
Tools:
Ali express:
5x loop
Hand setting tools
Amazon:
Rodico
Cheapo 150 piece watch tool set
As this is my first watch build I will do an initial build-up with the aliexpress dial and hands as these should be drop-ins with the movement and case. Wear that for a bit then upgrade with the raffles dial, which will require gluing, T21 crystal, and whatever else catches my eye in the meantime.
I do plan to shape and "age" the case and bracelet when they arrive in a few days. As of now I just plan to look at some reference photos and go at it with a file/rotary tool.
Any tips on this would be appreciated.
I believe I will need to broach the raffles second hand to fit on the NH movement. Has anyone had luck with this?
I'll be 3d printing some assembly tools while I wait.
For the case shaping i personally would not use a rotary tool, only small files and sandingsticks, sandpaper with high gritt count. You can always take of some more but not put something back on. For the fitting of an acrylic crystal: Dont know if that changed, maybe some other user can tell you more about that, but a t21 and t22 seem to fit a little better in the saphire case (plus widening the bezel) and dont need any glue. After lurking for quite some time. You really delivered on your original concept
Thanks for the advice. I have a set of mercedes hands for an NH movement. Wow I didnt een know curved hands were a thing... the more you know. For the case shaping i personally would not use a rotary tool, only small files and sandingsticks, sandpaper with high gritt count. For the Hands... if i were you, id just buy a set of NH specific mercedes hands and use them, you find them everywere. in Seiko mod shops, ebay and on ali.. the hands raffles sell are also "just" 12mm service hands (sub hands).. as far as i know there are no 13mm curved hands either for ETA od NH movements on the market... there is flat set from helenarou for ETA but even then id just take a cheap NH seconds hand (12,5mm) and live with it... there maybe was another user which name ecapes me right now, here in the treat who mentioned that you can get seconds hands to shorten yourself
just for the sake of mentioning the info you get here https://explorer1016.com/components/hands/ is a slighty diferent one and if you google for pictures there are a lot of non chaper ring 1016s were the hands reach into the marks. Thanks for the advice. Excellent. You'll be fine.So I got my Raffles 1016 delivered today.
The feel is a bit weird. The case looks somehow unfinished. Not the quality which is not bad...rather like it's a blank, if you see what I mean
I would appreciate some guidance on the general lug shaping. From the pics, I would say:
- about 1-1.5mm removed from the side, at the tip to increase the angle
- dampen the slope on the top
-maybe shave a tiny bit below to make the curve a bit more claw like, but I am unsure of this
- general softening
- top brushing and chamfer
+ maybe 0.5mm shave on the top of the rehaut
That case is so small. I see why some prefer hand files only vs dremel.
