Just wanted to share my build. Parts are as follows:

Gen 16013 case.
JMB Bezel
Gen Crown
Ebay dial I bought years ago
Vh31 Quartz movement
Clarks Crystal

I had this built for years with an ETA 2824 movement. I wanted to try something different. for those that don't know the Seiko Vh31 is a sweeping quartz movement. I made a quick video to show it here:

Well… and there I was thinking I had seen it all 😮

is the VH31 straightforward to install in the case? does it need a custom spacer or something like that?

It needed a spacer. All I had to do was sand the spacer down until it fit the case, took me maybe 10 minutes with a piece of 320 grit sandpaper. I saw an Explorer homage watch on Aliexpress and after eyeing it for a while thought to myself that I could probably get it to work on my gen case. I simply took the movement, stem, spacer and hands from that watch and transferred them into my case, the crown was a straight swap too, I didn't even need to trim the stem. Stem height was bang on as well.

Had a real nightmare with this, maybe it was beginners luck with the 1st build but this seemed to fight me every step of the way.

Lots of issues mounting the dial and hands, you can see on the dial how chipped it is as a result really disappointed with this, it’s a Mochacha dial which I was really pleased with when it arrived (2nd hand) , just my own inexperience to blame, you will also notice some of the lume missing i tried to remove a light stain on the dial with deionised water which removed the lume almost instantly,

I also had to use an odd minute hand, the minute hand I lumed for some reason was too large for the movement, at this point with the damaged dial I looked at the build as a learning exercise rather than a finished item so just used what I had to get the watch back together and see if the components would work together

I do feel like it has taught me a lot which is always valuable

On the brighter side I’m really pleased with how the case, bezel and crystal turned out, my previous case was relatively expensive so I was hesitant to do much to it but with this $50 case I was really able to get stuck in, I had selected my end links prior to shaping so used them as a constant ref throughout to match the case to.

I was unsure about lowering the rehaut in case it caused fitment issues but it went to together fine and I’m really pleased with the look it has given the watch.

I do have a thin Raffles crown on the way but after that not sure what to do next,

my initial thought was to re lume another set of hands and try a Ruby dial however after researching cases so much I’m wondering about trying one of the Vietnam cases
This looks great! What case did you use?

Thanks! It’s a Raffles case which I reshaped , if you go back a few pages I put a few WIP pics, no special tools just a metal file and various grades of wet and dry paper, I enlarged the lug holes for 2.0 spring bars, the bezel and crystal were sourced from fellow forum member 1016 lover, about $100 and a good few hours working the case

I'm kinda having a hard time finding the bottom of this rabbit hole, lol. 3 builds down, and still fascinated with the process of artificially "aging" a watch.

Has anyone ever tried to replicate "radium burns" on a dial? I have another dial incoming from Raffles, and considering suspending something hot slightly above the dial to replicate the marks that neglected vintage watches with radium lume often get where the hands stopped. Something like these would look really cool:

i wonder what you people do with all the builds? You sell? I don't see that much in M2M
With gens, I tend to buy when I find a deal, and sell when I can make a decent profit on the flip...so there's been a constant rotation of the collection, with the exception of a few I doubt I'll ever sell. With a little luck, a decent watch collection can be almost self sustaining this way.

The reps...especially these Raffles and Cartel projects...are generally cheap enough that I doubt they'd be worth the trouble of selling. It also allows me to have a lot of variations on the same watch, which, quite frankly, I'm in no financial position to responsibly do with gens. For example, I have a nice 1680 gen, but I'd have to make some unacceptable sacrifices to also own a 5513, 5514, 5517, 116610, and 1266120.

Reps broaden the collection in a financially responsible way, and these vintage reps replace gens that are either too expensive to own or wear, or simply not available.

It's like having a gen Corvette or 911, and also owning a rep AC Cobra and a rep Porsche Speedster. They scratch a different itch, but don't break the bank, and they're not a Greek tragedy if they get scratched while I'm driving them.

I see.
I just finished my first 5513...having some issues with the movement and crown and waiting for parts...

and I am already itching to start a new project 😅 because I want to make a better one... but I was wondering what I was going to do with two 5513

I was sort of ashamed of myself that I did bot care that much about the end watch but rather enjoyed the building

Yeah, the build is the exciting part, after it's done, it goes into the rotation and gets worn here and there.

This is what we men have instead of a closet full of little black shoes and dresses, lol.

As said building a watch is much fun and the result is - more or less - satisfying when finished but soon forgotten when the next build is in line. If made 6538, 1016 , 1680 , 1675 and always find a new watch I'm intetested in. At the moment I finish a 5517 milsub, which is a new challenge cause of the fixed 2mm springbars.

I could easily replicate most of those burns , with the exception of the bulova . I think I could possibly do that as well but it would take a few attempts very cool tho.

I pressure tested this Raffles case, the 36mm vintage with the acrylic crystal before I started working on shaping it and it passed 50m with no issues. I greased the case back gaskets and the crown gaskets before testing.

Honestly pretty impressed with the quality for the price.

Hi guys, sorry to step in here with another question. Wanted to build a 6200 and ordered a case from Tiger, but seems it's the wrong one.
Besel teeth are very different (maybe Seiko?)
and have never seen this bezel construction
Maybe someone can explain me ?
Thx Winni

I'm actually quite pleased with the Raffles case OOTB, as it were.
There's certainly some meat to come off but as others have said - that's a good thing, as what you can't do is add what isn't there already.
Will certainly be contacting a member here for a bezel as the angle doesn't look right but the rest of the case has lots of room for grinding and sanding and sculpting.
