Oh… I get it now 😮

I have been considering a second vintage Explorer, but couldn’t figure out what I would do with two of essentially the same watch.

Until our @Winni1611 offered an “offer-you-can’t-refuse” 6350, which I was fortunate enough to obtain, and … I get it now:

The gilt details, minute ring and textured dial pull you back into the mellow 1950s, and on a leather strap the warmth and roundness of the 1950s is further accentuated:

The 1016 and the 6350 are very much NOT the same, but a perfect supplement to each other - one a perfect tool watch for when the going gets tough, the other like a favorite sweater for when you just need to unwind and relax:

As most of you know , i'm a 1016 geek .
I'm finally coming to the end of a long quest, 10 years trying to create the perfect 1016, to end up buying a GEN with full set ... CLASSIC!

Tripdog helped me build most of them, especially the one with GEN dials and GEN 1570 (HUGE thanks).

I'd like to shot them to share here, and before sell some of them.

My question: what do you use to photograph your watches, especially for detailed shots?

The short answer is lots of (indirect) light, and either a macro lens or a telephoto from far away (ie, several feet, not a football field). You can get a cheap light box on Amazon or Ali/DH that can work miracles, or just diffuse light sources through a medium (cloth, a lamp shade, or even wax paper). Watches play hell with the camera's sensors, since there's lots of reflection from shiny and angled surfaces that have a camera trying to guess if it should expose for a flat black dial or a glossy bezel, for example.

There's some great guides online, including in the tech section here, but also look at guides for photographing guns (somewhat similar in that there's lots of detail and challenging reflective surfaces).

A 1016 would seem to be a simple subject to photograph, but there's a lot going on there, from a technical perspective.

Congrats on getting to the end of your journey, your new gen, and I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say I'm anxiously awaiting the clearance sale, lol.

Well, here we go.

Here's a lovely mint Raffles case and bracelet. Received just yesterday.

All nice and shiny. Saphire Crystal will be a 'sacrificial saphire crystal".
Masking tape on the inside of the bracelet and case back.

And in a few days time it will be back to say "Hi".

60 years of wear and tear and life later . . .

(With Thanks to Bonesey for guidance how to demolish "new and shiny".)
