I'm planning to get the 30.5mm.
I think that is the closest to clark's.

for some reason clark's shipping have gone thru the roof

Do you think the 30.6mm Omega one might fit the 1016 case? My bezel is on the wider side, so it might fit more snuggly than 30.5mm.

I don’t know if these acrylic crystals have different inner diameters that might not work for the case, or not.

Movement arrived so tried my HR dial in the case (I am waiting on a dial feet cutter to arrive before I fit my Mochacha dial)

Also purchased a genuine ETA stem need to cut it to length when my pin vice arrives

what case is this? looks great!

I purchased the case directly from forum member JMB, from what I understand its a generic aftermarket case which he reshapes, drills the lugs for 2.0 spring bars and adds a custom bezel. He also fitted a genuine crown for me on this particular case.

I broke the case down into its component pieces and re polished / brushed.

Tried to order another of the AliExpress Explorer case, and the listing is no longer available. Such is life with AliExpress, I guess.

Watch is now complete. I ordered some vintage lume hands from Rafflestime and tried them with the Mochacha dial, fortunately they were a pretty good match in terms of colour.
Tried them in the case loosely with the dial and I couldn’t decide which I preferred. I let my 10 year old son have the deciding vote and he went with the white.

Settled on the Rafflestime Submariner hands in the end, I like the long HR hands that I purchased but I find the slightly curved shape of these more appealing so went with them.

I have put a breakdown of the build and cost below in case it’s of any use for those looking to build a 1016.

JMB Case £240
Genuine Crown £40
Gen ETA 2824 (28,800bph) £110
Gen ETA Stem £10
Rafflestime submariner hands £15
Helenrou Dial £85
Raffles Dial solid oyster bracelet 455b endlinks £30
Everest 2.0 shoulderless spring bars £20
Genuine Clasp (78360) £240
Total spend £790

Took about 9 months in total and I’d estaimate around 7-8 hours in polishing brushing and tidying up the bracelet.

Stunning build, thanks for the breakdown - everything is in harmony! Is there a slight ridge in the center of those hands? Also - did the JMB case have a gen-spec crown tube, or did you tap and insert a gen tube? Could we see a side profile?

Thanks!

I would say so ,they definitely have more a 3D look when compared to the flat HR long hands.

I think the tube on the aftermarket case was compatible with the genuine crown, I’m not 100% sure but I got the impression that this was quite an old left over case that he had in stock.

When I enquired with JMB about the possibility of fitting it and he didn’t mention having to change the tube / retap the case. The case arrived with the crown in place which was a big help for me as I wouldn’t have been confident in sourcing my own which was a correct fit. Found him a really good guy to deal with.

"...did the JMB case have a gen-spec crown tube, or did you tap and insert a gen tube?"

FYI...I had two JMB '1016' cases that I bought about 10 years ago and they both had 5.3 case tubes and 6mm modern type crowns. I drilled/tapped one for a standard 6mm tube and crown and left the other one alone.

My '1016' story...

Second 1016 build. I wanted a plain black one.
I kept the sapphire crystal because i like the slight modern feel to it.
I’m definitely changing bezels to WSO.

I’m not sure whether to thin the lugs or not…with my first build, I realized if the lugs are too thin, it doesn’t look as good on nato straps. But the Raffles lugs (the middle parts) still feel slightly too thick for my liking

I was inspired by Wildman’s “modern vintage” build (although i dont like the maxi 224270 case).

If you are keeping the sapphire for the modern look , I feel the stock lugs add to that modern feel I do like your thinned lugs , they are even and uniform and have a nice shape and contour to them for a vintage watch , but to maintain the modern look of the new one. I say leave the lugs...just enlarge the lug holes. the crisp edges and thicker lugs compliment the flat and angular profile of the crystal.
