Hi
thought I’d share my progress so far as the thread seems really active at the moment.
Bracelet
I ordered 2 Italian 78360 bracelets (on separate occasions) and unfortunately had the 1st stolen by UPS and then the 2nd stolen 6 weeks later by Royal Mail. I’ve never lost anything in the mail before so I was really disappointed and it took the wind out of the whole project.
The losses were hard to swallow and I couldn’t justify ordering a 3rd so I ordered a Raffles solid link oyster with 455b end links. Arrived today (find Raffles a pleasure to deal with) and I’m delighted with it,the fitment of the end links in particular. I have a genuine 6694 form a similar year and the fitment is equal to that to my novice eye.
Case
I have a question about my case and would really appreciate some advice. The case is a JMB (Jason was a pleasure to deal with)
The case has some tooling marks which I would like to remove. Hopefully the picture below highlights the two issues.
1. The bezel has some quite deep scratches presumably from the manufacturing process
2. The case has some quite deep radial marks (lathe?) I’d like to remove these and give a smooth curve and brushed finish
Originally I planned to send the case away for polishing however after the recent losses I’m loathe to put anything of value in the post.
I have looked at DIY, I’m a complete novice when it comes to watch making and I’m concerned about damaging the case or making a hash of it.
Do you think that this is something that can be done at home? Whilst I am a complete novice when it comes to watches I have plenty of tools and have some metal refinishing experience (classic steel road bicycle components)
Any help or advice appreciated
Thanks
