If you're going to do this - this way - then make sure after doing one side you 'sink' the heat of doing the second - or your first foot solder will melt and fall over. In this case I'm just using a couple of lathe bits to do that but any old piece of thick steel will do as a heat-sink.

Does anyone know what could be the origin of this dial? I bought it and built it a while ago but have forgotten where it came from. The color seems to be a bit more orange in real life. Also just curious to know how accurate it this?

See those chips lads? - that's pure gold. Lathing down some 9ct to make a repair to a beautiful charm bracelet for a friend. The Emco managed it down to 0.60mm and the rest we did by burnishing down to 0.50mm.

Working with gold is absolutely addictive - it is a beautiful material to work with in every way, (different to brass in a strange way) I can't wait to turn my first watch case in gold. It is only a mtter of time . . .

I have been working through this thread and learning a lot. I was wondering if I could please have your opinions on this 1016 build?

It was one that I was thinking of buying, but someone else got to it first. I guess I will keep searching for something a bit nicer. Thanks for your thoughts.

Your watch looks fine to me!

I decided a long time ago that 'close enough' was 'good enough'.
Why's that?
Because no matter what, at least half of the people who look at a ROLEX! will consider it Fake! even though they can't tell the difference.
If you like it...wear it. Imho.

Still have a few genuine vintage Rlx watches but I hardly ever wear one for two reasons:
1...What I said above. Better to get called out for a replica than a genuine example. Ha!
2...Do not want to take a chance on one of them breaking down.

I like the models made in the 1970s best because this is what I remember a ROLEX! looking like before they turned into today's high priced flash jewelry.
I do have a favorite 'modern' Rlx though.
A swisseta Noobmariner!

I went back to an old Raffles build i did and updated it with a new dial, hands, and reshaped the case again. Dial lume colored with Tamiya weathering master paint set A.

This is an older version or Raffles’ 1016 case, which i realized has thicker and bigger lugs than his “OG POFY DESN” cases.

I shaved the lug to lug length down to gen-spec 43mm and reshaped the profile.

It’s still in progress, so i would really appreciate any feedback on the case shape. I still wonder if the lug tips are a bit too thick (they’re about 1.90mm at the tip).

This is the closest I could get to measuring (1:1 ad… as evidenced by 20mm lug size):
