Saw this on eBay going for $300 with one bid and no watchers. I figured I’d sneak in and snipe it; but my bid was short. Please tell me someone here got it for a 6350 Franken, lol.

Damn, that evil bay! A few months ago, there was only one watcher on a 1675 MK0. I bid $550 thinking it was a lock. Some lucky asshole got it for $551 or $555. Was hoping it was someone here, but was to frustrated to ask.

Slightly off topic:
I have owned two 63xx type watches, one in October 1990 (paid $200, sold in August 1993 for $450) and another in November 1990 (paid $250, sold for the same amount later in the same month to get rid of it).
Bought a small BB (very cheap) in very good condition in 2018 with worn out A/W assembly...traded it for a first class Hamilton 992B RR pocket watch to avoid the repair/parts hassle with the BB.

I will say this about them:
Imho #1: The A260 base movements are 'junque' today because of the $$ involved, to put it politely. For this reason, making a 'Big BB explorer' out of one of the 63xx cases is fine and dandy...as long as it has a reliable ETA etc. movement.

The A260 type autowind assemblies are prone to wear out 'overnight' and all parts are virtually N/A and high $$ today.
Imho #2: The cal 1030 base movements that followed the A260 types are pretty good and 'sheer perfection' compared to the A260. The bad news is Time Rocks On and cal 1030 parts are getting very hard to find and harder to afford now too. I admit to still owning three examples with 1030 base movements (two 36mm DJ and one 34mm OP) but never wear one.
The tutone 6605 DJ is in the same thread as the ' Pics of my 16220 '1016' link on page 260 of 'The 1016: The Under Appreciated Thread'.

Imho #3: As far as old classic watches like the 63xx 'explorer' go...Replicas Rule!

IIRC, there are 2 different threads used on Rolex crowns and tubes (for simplicity, "smaller" and "larger"). Some of the gen crowns fit on Raffles cases, but the others don't.

I think Athaya crowns are made like "the others," that don't fit without removing the tube and rethreading the case, but I've never used Athaya crowns. I usually use gen crowns, since they're not terribly expensive or hard to find, although the gen crowns that fit on the Raffles case might not be the "correct" combination for a 1016.

Thanks for your answer, do you know the reference of the original crown that fit on the raffle's case ?

I haven't painted with watercolour since I was 17 in art school... so don't judge me too harshly.

Is this dial a mk.2/3 ? Can I ask where you find? It is not perfect but is the first time that I see this specific dial!

Looks good Ukrop - you look as if you're having trouble getting adherence of the colour to the lume which I had on these dials.
Procedure was to colour it - leave it to dry and then rinse under the cold tap. Repeat to increase colour depth and hue.
The Raffles dials are bomb-proof so don't be shy.

While I'm here - a quick Sunday Evening Kitchen Shot Club featuring green beans (grown in le jardin de 316lad) and same dial as yours.

Thanks for advise! Will definitely try that.
Like I said - don't be shy but at the same time don't be greedy. Apply colour - dry - rinse - repeat. No point in over-colouring in one pass as it just balls up, gathers and doesn't "go in". This one took about 6-8 seperate applications using the above MO.
And less is more - this is Tritium - it just doesn't go too yellow however long it's been sitting around in the dark unlike Radium that goes brown.
