Which raffles dial has the best lume? I’m presume that I should buy C3 and relume, if I want the brightest ? What is the most okay out of the box ?

i don’t think u have to worry too much on the lume. gen tritium dials don’t glow unless under UV light.

the lume on raffles dials are generally ok and I would think u probably wanna repaint them instead.

here's a lumeshot.
it glows brightly after shining under a UV torch but fades quickly after 5minutes or so.
iphone only does a 3s exposure so pardon the potato look :ROFLMAO:

Yep. Perfectly good - a nice balance between torque and "feel- feedback" through the tools - providing everything is solid and held rigidly. So that comes down to making sure the Unimat you buy is absolutely top notch - or can be restored to such.
I was very, very lucky in that mine was brand new in box. I say brand new for something that was made in 1966 !
Think to go for unimat emco sl, with thé milling option, that s a mess for sur to find a good exemplar 😄

Guys

I am still struggling on how to size that viet rivet bracelet I bought some time ago.

I was suggested two methods
1. To bend the center links
2. To remove the rivets

I have a hard time doing 1.
I can’t figure out what tool to use

And 2. I don’t know how to open rivets without trashing them

I always do method one.
flat screw driver or pin or razor to pry up the center link and then use a flat screw driver to open wider.
bend back using protection over your plyers. then tap with a hammer and wood drift to flatten metal back to shape. IT will be deformed a bit .

There is no way to remove a rivet without destroying it. single use only.

Also - get in to the habit of using "soft jaws" on any tools you're brigning in to contact with visible areas of the watch/ strap/ work. Copper works best - whether on the vice, pliers, screwdriver, anything. Get hold of an old piece of 15mm plumbing pipe and with some snips you can cut and bend it in to shape to fit whatever you're using for the task. That way you won't mark the stainless steel and leave ugly gouges or scratches.

So I've finally got round to a simple 1016 project. The starting point is a complete Raffles set.
The movement is a serviced and slightly modified A2824.

The set is ok, but doesn't really convince me. What would be the next steps to get more out of it?

In order of priority

Bezel change
Crystal change
Dial and hands ageing
Lugs reshape
Lughole redrill

Very satisfactory as it is.
I would just slightly age the case and bezel to smooth the sharp edges and add a few natural scratches.
Aging these indexes would be too bad (I now prefer them white) unless you can achieve a subtle off white shade while keeping these indexes sharp, since Raffles has a vintage indexes dial for sale.
If you are equipped to do so, you can redrill the lugs and find shoulderless spring bars with nicelely rounded ends.
And if you can find a nicer crystal, it would also be an improvement.
But again, this looks sharp!
