Personally I use several layers of watercolor, then i clean the dial and finally bake it.
The watercolor cakes up and flakes a bit
You can use the same watercolor tones on the hands lume, and clean up the hands skeleton afterwards
I use the matte varnish drop technique…this technique is buried somewhere in this thread…i won’t tell you so that you read all 250 pages to find it
RafflesdialsWould you mind sharing where you sourced your Explorer dial? I'm looking for a Mark 2 dial, and this one is the closest to gen I've seen.
O

It’s a cheap dial actually
they made a release in 2023 of this one.I need to take another look at their dials. I have a few of them, but the Rs in EXPLORER have been wrong. Thanks!

I was a noob at that time, this 1016 is my second build ever.

Just a motley collection of bits and pieces. The green abrasives for Dremmel I adapted and made a holder for so they fit in the lathe tool holder and are revolvable as they wear. Then finishing up with 240/ 400 grit wet and dry papers wrapped around hard wood sticks to maintain form - handheld in order to finesse final comtouring. All using light pressure so as not to dig in.What tool did you use to shape the lugs?
I really like very subtle patina you have there.
I'm planning to do something similar with either diluted acrylic paint or watercolor. Just need to figure out right colour and ton
it is indeed luminova, is a gen service dial, I spoke to the sellerlooks like a relumed or refinished dial. The lume looks to be luminova.
welcome to the club btw!
Is not supposed to be an MK1yup hence it could be a refinished dial.
I have not seen mk1 with luminova (even service ones) in the wild afaik
Nice digging, it‘s likely to be a service dial then. Good luck with ur build!it is indeed luminova, is a gen service dial, I spoke to the seller
I also found out more about the dial from :
Service Dials

Yep. Perfectly good - a nice balance between torque and "feel- feedback" through the tools - providing everything is solid and held rigidly. So that comes down to making sure the Unimat you buy is absolutely top notch - or can be restored to such.I think to buy a unimat lathe, IS 90w ok for case working?
