any tips on how to crimp a seconds hand safely?
I need to get it from 0.21 to 0.17

no clue where I can find such a small wire to protect the tube inside. or should I just freehand it?

So as you may remember I was playing around with having custom dials created. Well, I've gone ahead and created at great cost the first hundred.

If there’s a list, please add me!

And here it is in my Pagani donor watch. Note the dial is 29mm and you really need a 31mm, but now I can get these made easier as the 29mm are really nice and clearly work. Guess I'll be getting some 31mm dials made!

would copper be ok? that's the only type of wire I can find thin enough
Copper is a softer metal so should the wire be removed when you get it close enough? Like, take it out before the last turn or two and use the movement to test fit? I'm just asking because I've ruined hands by getting things stuck.

I wonder if 3D printer nozzle cleaning needles and drill bits would work for this. The sizes and shapes are really precise and dirt cheap on AliX.

If you want to put a smaller dial in a larger case you could always use a shim....these come in various sizes, and are thin enough though cut with scissors...

Here is an example of one used before I sourced a Viet rep case for is 369 sub(just to keep it Explorer relevant).

This is a good idea. Coincidentally, I had the exact same idea and 3d printed some shims to see if I would like them. It's just that gap between the rehaut and dial I just don't like. It just isn't perfect like I want! While I'm not sure what the uptake would be on 31mm dials, I still am going to do a run. The question is, do I do RWI, or some other branding? Can even do some fantasy company like Dunder Mifflin or something.
