This is the current progress of the 1016 mk2 dial. I'm in the process of rasterizing low-resolution photo samples to 10000*10000 pixels. Fortunately, I found a sample of not bad size to work with, and I quite like the result. (Of course, this was a relatively quick test, so the quality is not perfect.)
Tomorrow, I'm going to rasterize the samples after AI upscaling, and refine the details by hand comparing with the gen.

A is the result of the first rasterization. The letters are too thick and messy to the point where it's impossible to refine...
B is the result of trying a different method and investing more time. Now a sample that can be touched has come out.

if you have drilled 1.3mm then you can use

20mm (Ø2.00mm) Rolex 050

R19196 CousinsUK reference

You will need to file the ends as the lugs of the 1016 are slimmer
Thanks!! Sadly I do not have 1.3mm drilled lugs - just the stock Raffles holes.

Something like those for example. Im sure there are others out there but that is what i had saved :) The base raffles case has to be redrilled to 1,2mm or 1,3mm

Thanks! After contemplating my options… and my lack of ability to drill out my lugs wider, I decided to try thinning out the pivots on my springbars. 🤣 so with a rotary tool and a cylindrical grinding attachment, miraculously I was able to thin out the pivots without making a giant mess of them all. Not perfectly uniform but the end result was almost lathe-like. Not sure if it compromises the strength of the pivots… but we’ll see for now! 🤞🏼

In the process, I managed to add copious amounts of swirls to the acrylic crystal. Next steps are to swap for a T21 and possibly a new bezel.. I am officially going down the rabbit hole!

That's looking very good indeed!

Hello guys !

Found this thread a few days back, and after having gone through a good part of the pages, i cannot resist to try à 1016 build..
Dial, hands and movement will be done later, when I have practiced a little.. because I am new in this world.

I'll start with the case and a little reshaping.. for that, I tried to analyze the work that some here have done
I'm not sure which way to go... something like that ? :

Or anyone have before/after (or vs a gen case) photos of the raffle case?

Thanks !

Welcome to the rabit hole :D

Its good that you decided to read up on this thread. It is some work but it is imensely interesting and there is so much expirience, trial and error and briliant idieas in here.

Take a look at this

I personally would start with the top profile of the lugs and round them out / get rid of the "hump", after that you can slim down the lug flanks. I personally think they get pretty "flat" close to the lugholes and the case has just that oyster belly in the middle. Ill try to make some fotos of my heavily worked and "overpolished" case. Just look at a lot of gen 1016 pictures online to get a feel for the form. None of the builds you see here are 100% identical due to preferences, abilities, "story of the watch" and how it startet out.

Id advice you do use some handfiles, sanding paper, sanding sticks and no rotary tools because of the controll it will give you. You can always take off some more material but putting it back on is quite hard :)

Completing my winter activities, I added the TC “great white” NH hands to the 6610 and the new Raffles 13mm ETA hands to the 1016. I’ll enjoy these as they are for a while as I ponder next steps 😎

I think ill order some hands too today. Shame that my curent build uses a NH movement. Hours, MInutes will probably be fine but does someone here have an idea about a 13mm seconds hand? I also heared about a set were you have to shorten the hands yourself but i cant remember were. Was it maybe you @Karbon74 ?

The seconds hand fits the NH movement if you give the tube a slight squeeze.

Update: I have gone back to my old (Hellenarou?) hands. The Raffles 13mm minute hand being broader than the hour hand (both overall and also in the lume plot) bothered me. Also, for later 1016s, the shorter minute hand is correct anyway so that I will stick to this look.

right.? 99% of people wont even notice your watch. of that 1% may compliment you on it. of that 1% may know what it is or even care and I think almost literally nobody .1% will call you out on an E , unless you take it to a vintage watch gtg or show.

but with watch collecting we celebrate our ocd lol
