Of course the optimal solution would be having Simona remove the buckle and sitch the strap again. Sewn-in buckles, especially bronze ones, are often pieces of fine artistry, it would be a pity to destroy it.

Now that I think about Grimlocktime managed to remove one once by cutting the buckle right next to the strap hole, bend it slightly and slid it out. This way he could re-use the sewn-in buckle like a normal one. I should have the link in my dog's tutorial list, let me check it.

Update: no link to that discussion unfortunately. Hopefully I could explain myself decently with words :)

To keep the buckle alive would be nice, but is not really necessary. The strap is a 24/22 one and my bronzo is a 47mm and all my 26er Straps are either 26/26 or 26/24 ;-)
It was all a communication failure. I ordered two straps in the summertime when Simona was on vacation. So she offered me a bonus-strap for free as compensation for the waiting time. I chose one without buckle and later she proposed this bronze buckle, but I didn´t realize it is a sewn in model ;-) Now I have this very nice strap that suites perfect to my 1056 but the bronze buckle hurts my eyes in this combo ;-)

Ok guys, my straps from Thomas Leather Handmade have finally arrived, here's the first one called Vintage Amaretto.
I am amazed by the quality and looks, these are not cheap straps but at least you get really high quality and comfort.
Buying 2 or more straps will also get you a discount ;)

Take a look

Hazing - Very nice...! Thanks should go to superspark69 as it was his post in this thread that introduced me to Cordes. I now already have over 20 of his straps with more in the works....

Here are some more pictures of the 3 above - as you can see, I like specifying contrasting linings to add a little colour. The middle strap is actually a very dark blue Horween that has some grey tones in the grain.

Those Cordes straps are super unique, and extremely well finished. Such a great concept repurposing those old leather bags!!!

If you want to save the buckle you should ask Simona if you can send it back ---- they can remove threads, remove the buckle, and then re-sew. It's not a terribly complicated process, but definitely a few weeks in shipping/processing /shipping.

Otherwise, like kilowattore says - dremel to your heart's content!

I think you have the long strap on backwards! You can tell by the stitching which is much cleaner on the buckle side.

:p

Yeah, but unfortunately my dog stole my laser sword ;-)

I’ve cut out a buckle or two before with a Dremel and it worked out pretty well. I was even able to salvage the make the buckle work with a spring bar but it was kinda shoddy and ended up being junk. I’d I put more care and effort into it, 8t could have been salvaged but it wasn’t worth it. But yes, it’s possible to cut the buckle. Or you could have someone who works with leather unstitch it and stitch it back up.

On a side note, I have some nice leather from an old old jacket and would love to try and make some straps myself. If anyone knows of any good tutorial threads or vids please point them out. I have some tools mostly for modifications but I wouldn’t mind buying more. I think I’d like to start out small though just to see how it goes.

iirc what what was the user name? Pimsis who was making a few straps?

Sounds like a project!. I’m looking forward to see if you do this as I’ve also thought about having a crack myself!.

I will. I’ll let you know if I make any progress but to be honest, as soon as I got back he notification that you replied I thought “ugh if he sent me a link showing a good tutorial, that would suck because it will be one more project I won’t get to.” Lol. But it is something I really want to try.

Also I wouldn’t mind changing some stitching on some really nice existing straps.

Secondary question. Has anyone used tan-go (I believe?)? He has a handful of straps listed in the m2m section and they look outstanding. Like crazy good. I’m just wondering if the quality is close to what we deal with and talk about on here. Pics attached of tan gos straps from his threads.

It’s a she and I have seen many reviews on here saying the quality is outstanding. A lot of members seem to order directly through her when getting a new leather rep.
