Laphroig. Bowmore. Islay scotches rule. An acquired taste, admittedly.

Peaty stuff my friend. I know several people that share that preference.

My "house" pour is Macallan 12 year. On special occasions I break out the Glenmorangie 18. Neat, of course.

Anyone a fan of Dalwhinnie or Auchentoshen? Spelling may be wrong on both...it's been a while since I've been to the liquor store.

I have had Dalwhinnie, it is pretty tasty. Not my favortie but has some great qualities. I am about to have a big celebration and am considering what expensive bottle I should buy...

++1 for me. My top two. However, for me it was only one sip for me to get the acquired taste. ;). Love Islay, but will drink highland if I have to. After that tonic and whisky.

Yes I too have the scotch, gun, cigar, watch, and knife disease.

Mine is regular glemouangie but when want to ramp it up its Lasanta. The port wine cask make it so smooth its amazing. Glenmorangie has a nectar too that is aged in sherry wine cask. When I can't find it . Balvini double wood will do in a pinch

My staple is the Glenlivet 15yo French Cask. I love that stuff to death. It's the perfect in between of price and taste. The 18yo is too expensive for 1.5 bottles a week, and the 12 is too sharp of a finish. Fifteen yo is just right at $54/ bottle.

You guys are probably going to flame me out of here, but I tried maker's mark again for the first time in 7 years and I LOVE it as a daily drink. I think I might get a handle.

Oh, and I'm buying that doublewood to try tomorrow.

Makers Mark isn't Scotch Whisky buddy. It's American Bourbon.

For those looking for a bigger flavour, but not ready for the over-the-top peatyness of the Islay's, try Buichladdich Rocks. It's all Islay, but not peaty.

This is a little old, some bottles have changed but it gives you an idea of the scotches in my bar. For those Glen fans, I really think 15 yo is the best. I find 18 to be inferior to the 15!

So what did you think of the Balvenie double wood boostin20?

So what did you think of the Balvenie double wood boostin20?

It was incredibly smooth, and I could taste hints of vanilla; no apparent berry notes though. Overall, I rate it in my top 3 of affordable scotches (affordable meaning I can drink 1-1.5 bottles a week and not flinch at cost).

I will switch weekly between this, Glenlivet 15yo french oak reserve, and Laphroaig. I know Laphroaig is way out in left field compared to the other two, but that smoky peat flavor is delightful on a limited basis.

Edit: I just had it again tonight, and tasted notes of honey and a hint of berryish aftertaste.

Great choice!

i have a nice bottle of
Laphroaig 10 Year old / Cask Strength

that will put hairs on your chest mate .......57.8% MMMMMMMM
lrgob10yov2.jpg

Emphatic, full bodied and utterly unforgettable.

10 Year Old Original Cask Strength Laphroaig whisky is an Islay single malt bottled at natural distillery strength.

The whisky's rich flavours come through as never before because the whisky has not been chill-filtered.

This gives a depth of genuine taste and texture normally associated with sampling a whisky at its source.

Producer: Laphroaig Distillery - www.laphroaig.com
ABV: 57.8%
Country of Origin: Scotland
KelkooUsage: Whisky
Region: Islay

don't mix it up wit the Laphroaig Quarter Cask............. that's just normal stuff at 40%

I'll try some this weekend I'd I can find it.

That might be hard to find. Bevmo has it online but I've never seen it at any of the local stores. $150 a bottle!

I'll have to pick up a bottle of the 10yr to give it a try. I'm not really a fan of peaty Scotch but I still plan to try them ALL:thumbsup:
