Thank you, yes I meant to improve the AR on the crystal. I know rep has similiar AR with the gen. But personally i dont like to wear a mirror-like watch on my wrist. I will contact one of those modders.

The rep one is single ar like the gen, the thing is the gen will use a much higher standard of crystal than the rep, so the glare is going to be magnified slightly. If he wants to improve the watch that's what he's going to have to do, personally I would be fine with it but each to their own

Didn't want to create a new thread, sorry if I'm hi-jacking your thread.

I was just wondering: 1) How is the quality (strength) of the crystal for the Pams? My bumble had a scratch on the crystal with limited usage and I was truly bummed. Has anyone experienced any noticable scratches, I'm on the fence with getting a Pam because of the added crystal diameter as well as the crystal being convex. 2) Is there any way the seagull can be made to be a 12hr GMT (as per gen) instead of 24hr GMT? Not talking about mods, just talking about the Seagull movement in general, as I dont understand why they would choose to make it 24hr instead of 12hr. (sorry if this has been covered before)

I'm deciding between the Pam359 which seems like a no frills good 1st Pam rep or the Pam438 which is just too sexy!! I personally know that I will keep eying the 438 if I got the 359 but the fact that the GMT is not as per gen is what's holding me back.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and help!

The crystal on my Pam 380 has been holding up well so far, it's been my daily wear and I've accidentally banged it off a few hard surfaces. There are no visible scratches at all.

And if there's one thing to take away, it's that which ever one you end up picking will not be your last Pam!

Guy is right, your first Pam won't be your last. I purchased 7 more after my first lol.
as long as it's sapphire crystal, it is very difficult to scratch. Maybe even harder to scratch it than to keep clean

I thought so too at first, seeing that my Gen Rollie has gone through hell throughout the years. Obviously I'm not expecting the same quality but I really dont know how my AP Bumblebee's crystal got scratched so easily.

I have a theory about the crystal AR. I mean, they have great AR on other watches, why not the 438? Could it be that they tried it and the watch looked a little dead? Having weak AR definitely makes the watch more lively. There must be a reason for it. They wouldn't design a masterpiece like this and then at the end say, "Ah… F#@% it! Just get it to market and save the cost."

These (and the gen) are single AR ( on the inside of the crystal). You need double AR ( AR on the inside and external surface ) on these or any dome crystal for good AR as dome crystals have an internal reflection issue that flatter crystals don't suffer from ( like omega planet ocean which have double AR) I think panerai opted for single AR because it is in keeping with the high durability/tool watch/ rough and ready image pam tend to project. Double AR ( even on gen ) really makes for a watch you have to baby if you want it looking good. The omega rep boys and girls are always ding up their double AR. One little wipe with a cape cod cloth ( anywhere on the watch) and say bye bye to the AR coating.

I don't think you have scratched the crystal. If you hit one hard enough they tend to chip and crack, not scratch. Ap have double AR. That's what you have scratched off. Rep AR is much weaker than gen durability wise.

Yea I guess that's what happened, guess I gotta be extra careful with the crystal when I do get a Pam rep!

Still can't decide whether it should be 359 or 438... sighs they both look amazing!

Is the external layer of AR coating what you have scratched, not the sapphire crystal !

Try to remove it completely with a cloth and polishing paste (be carefull with the bezel !!)

Ahhh that sounds like what happened.

Is there any reason why the Seagull or A7750 only has 24hr GMT Ale? Is it a limitation on the movement?

Just the movement is made to have 24hrs GMT . I think that in rep A7750 and Seagull the GMT function is gotten by the mechanism of the date wheel which turns every 24 hrs. I'm not sure about that, but some specialist could chime in

O.PANERAI made these manifattura movements with GMT 12 hrs. I think in order to get an exclusive feature and to get more simple the watch using the same markers for regular time and GMT time

Understood. Maybe I'll start with the 359 and hope for a change or (update) with the GMT models then!! Thanks Ale!
