Can't really complain about the ceramic as I wear mines daily on orloff black croco :)

one thing tho, the AR sucks and it reflects like crazy. I also heard gen is terrible AR too.

Well, we did want accurate replication. ;)

I'm married to a left-hander and she keeps whacking her watch on mine. Having a hard time getting a metal scuff off my tuttonero. Rubbed it quite a bit. Any tips?

Th scuffs you saw on my bezel were from my inside waist holster and they came right off with the soft cloth and a bit of water.

Thanks. I tried a t-shirt and some tissue paper. I'll get some water onto it and have another crack.

It is light like Titanium and it is very warm. But 508 is massive even made of ceramic
Awesome finish and details

Thank you. Would you say that the 508 is equally well replicated as the 438?

Does anyone have both? If so, how do they compare? Is the AR any better on the 508?

Leaving aside movement is better rep the PAM 438 ceramic, because the pearl, lume and markers of PAM 508 have some inaccuracies and inconsistencies. But having a closed caseback PAM 508 has an important advantage

It is a taste matter, if you like the watch just on the wrist, take a PAM 438. If you are sensitive to movements buy a PAM 508

Hi Guy's.... I too am having the dilemma of having to choose between the PAM438 and the PAM508. I think I'm leaning toward the 438 because of the sandwich dial, display case back and ceramic bracelet. I'm not sure if the bracelet is my cup of tea but at least I'll have it and can easily put a strap on instead if I don't just love it. My question is about the movement. Does anyone know if the raised / silver colored "Officine Panerai" letters are machined into the rotor or just applied / stick-on letters? I can't imagine the letters would be applied after going to such great detail on the rest of the watch but thought I'd ask to see if any of you who own the watch knows for sure. Thanks for any input!!

You can get the crystal on the 438 coated and the difference is amazing. Both are great reps and i wear the 508 more than the 438 because i use the ring as a time reminder for mtgs. The 438 however, with that ceramic bracelet is so clean and smooth on the wrist. Buy both. New version of the 508 with seagull mvmt- cheaper, and according to some, a more reliable movement. So there you have what i know

Hi and thanks for the info.... These reps are so nice that "buying both" seems to be the answer ;) However, I already did that once before with the PAM243 (7750) and the PAM359 (ST2555). They are very similar to these but in brushed and polished SS. I was hoping to only get one ceramic but it's not been an easy choice... Also, I do like the price of the 2555, both it and the 7750 movements have worked flawlessly for me.

I heard the letters on the 438 rotor were RAISED and look pretty cool. I was just wondering if they were "stick on" like some of the early PAM111 reps. With the caliber of these rep's, I wouldn't think so.

Thanks for your reply... Now I can tell the wife it's your fault if I buy both

These (and the gen) are single AR ( on the inside of the crystal). You need double AR ( AR on the inside and external surface ) on these or any dome crystal for good AR as dome crystals have an internal reflection issue that flatter crystals don't suffer from ( like omega planet ocean which have double AR) I think panerai opted for single AR because it is in keeping with the high durability/tool watch/ rough and ready image pam tend to project. Double AR ( even on gen ) really makes for a watch you have to baby if you want it looking good. The omega rep boys and girls are always ding up their double AR. One little wipe with a cape cod cloth ( anywhere on the watch) and say bye bye to the AR coating.

How can you elaborate further? He's asking how you can get better crystal. The answer is send it to a modder and get double ar on it. If you're in the EU it's someone like Domi or KeNnY or PBdad or others if you're in the US.

The rep one is single ar like the gen, the thing is the gen will use a much higher standard of crystal than the rep, so the glare is going to be magnified slightly. If he wants to improve the watch that's what he's going to have to do, personally I would be fine with it but each to their own
