Forgive me for returning to this old topic.
Any advice on how to put the hands on the subdials? I almost went crazy.

you need to be looking at the dial end on- the shafts need to be at eye level. put the movement up on a shoebox. As said above- use Rodico not your fingers. I use Rodico out toward the end of the hand so it is just barely hanging on, then in my other hand i use a small wooden pusher (a toothpick would suffice) to press on the hand. wood will not scratch the paint off the hand very easily. Having the Rodico out there on the end makes it easier to remove it once the hand is set without taking the hand with you. once it seems to be sitting on the shaft use your hand press tool to drive it home.
if you do not have Rodico i guess a tiny bit of Play Doh might work- but everyone should have Rodico if you are going to do this kind of work.
