My backlog is cleared now with the Constellation made. I decided to delay the Rolex Cartier build. I also successfully resisted the scratch to start the 14060 project too...So please @369mafia don't give me any ideas. 😱

Order placed with Bi for the dial

new calipers to make measurements.
I break down the San Martin this sunday once I get back from travel

I already have the crown and new stems. I will use a 7mm seamaster.

Need to order a NH38 and the armoured glass

I am undecided if I do vintaged or NOS. I prefer vintage but the case is so nice that it's painful to cut into it

So I got the Bi dial today and sent a scan to dpd
and also took the watch apart

Bi dial 30.9mm, 0,9mm thick

San Martin
caseback 35.7mm outside, 32.9mm thread
Dial 31mm, 0,3mm thick

Tube thread outside 3.41mm
tube inside 2.4x a bit hard to measure accurately without taking it out
I have asked SM again about the tube. I rechecked their answer and they were taking about the crown 😅

Rehaut ID 29,95mm

I might have a issue with the stem height, so maybe I will need to sand down the dial a bit.

While waiting for the CousinsUK parts,

Interestingly, the bezel is a lot like the 1016. That's probably what drew me to this watch actually 😅

Now it does mean that I will have to pry it open as the crystal won't pop off...

still undecided about the NOS or vintage

San Martin confirms that the tube is glued and pressed in

Make things simpler. I just hope the tube hole is 2.5mm
If it's the case, I won't even need to drill

I am also a bit pissed. I have a parcel from AliX showing delivered but nothing in mailbox 😳

I hope it's the building keeper who signed for it

EDIT: the Cainiao delivery guy put it in the wrong mailbox...now waiting for the neighbor to come back hom and get my stuff. I just hope he is honest...

I am starting with the oxidization of the hands. Those in the 1016 crowd remember the struggles of some about the hands not oxidizing at all...

well, now I know why.
Temperature.

I put the container with the vinager hydrogen peroxide salt mix in a pan with water. Cover and bring to boil.

I also scratched the hands with some sandpaper. probably 400grit was too much...but it should be mostly hidden by the oxidization

Ok I fuxxed up.
I did not watch the hands enough. the rust has taken over and the hour and min hands are tarnished brown now 😳

I am trying to figure out if it's a depot or if the hands are brass underneath a nickel plating

oh well. I don't think they will be hard to replace if need be

so, false alarm. It was water limestone that had caked on the hands.

i think I am pretty good now.
The Railmaster was only nominally waterproof and used in rustic environment

I think that's the right look

Looks like legit patina, although there's enough for 2 watches there, lol.

Congrats on getting the build started!

What a fascinating crystal
I had to make a compromise. There are the wide rings but they would have eaten too much into the dial

I am itching to do the matte varnish now..
but it's 8º outside
and this means the varnish drops will splatter instead of doing the rough texture

Next week is even colder and humid...this is going to have to wait a bit
