Ok I assembled it to see what happens.

the dial is too thick and the stem is out of alignment

the 6mm crown I found is too thick too, which breaks the proportion

if i want to have an armoured acrylic crystal I will need to have a custom bezel, and this opens another can of worms

That said, what a handsome watch 😍
Not done yet, but a damn huge milestone...the watch looks fantastic so far.

How much extra thickness is there on the dial? You really just need to change the crown!
Yeah, if it's not too bad, there's always the option to sand down the back of the dial a bit. I've done it to reduce some .5mm dials a little bit. You'd then have to reattach the dial feet (or use dots), but if it's not too off, it's a reasonably simple solution.

The dial is 0.5mm thicker than the stock dial
Now I did this fast for a test. The cut dial feet are not fully sanded, plus I used double sided tape on the movement holder.

So I am quite confident on this

For the crown, I need to find something else indeed 😅

yours is better as you have the steel ring 😍

a pity I did not see yours. I would probably not started this project if I knew those reps existed in the wild
The member I got it from said it originally came from Gate. It keep’s perfect time and is very wearable.

ok I am « almost » done

The final grind, literally, was to bring the 0.9mm dial thickness to a manageable 0.5mm . It took me 2 solid hours of mindless sanding with wet 240grit.

What can be improved.
the crown is much better than previous but still not perfect.
it’s an internal thread tube, external smooth.
it is much better than usual external thread screw down… however it’s a little bit too high

Look at it as an ongoing process, that's what I'm doing with my 6098. It's finally good enough that I'll wear it, but I plan to constantly tweak and upgrade it until I'm dead or it's perfect, lol.

That turned out great!! Fantastic job. really like the texture on the dial and the right amount of aging . A+

Fuxx… I claimed victory too fast. 😱😭😱
now the stem hole is aligned, so this is not the problem

So my diagnosis is that I bought crappy stems. Off to CousinsUK to get real ones 🤦

ok I looked at it again.
I still need to remove 0.1 to 0.2mm from the dial

the stem is crappy indeed but there is still too much pressure during time setting. Winding was smooth. So I am guessing it’s a leverage and twisting effect of the misalignment

You went into the keyless works from the dial side?
yeah. the tricky part was to depress the stem release while taking out the broken stem with tweezers.
Thank god I am almost ambidextrous.

It took me some time also to figure out that the hacking level had to be in winding position in order to reinsert the time setting wheel
